I mean we could always bring back Chavis. I'm sure he'd like to have more than 1 National Championship to his name. I know people get mad about his irritating prevent defenses, but LSU has been a title contender for several years with a ****ty offense. Someone's gotta be responsible for that.
I would be ok with Lovie Smith. I think it would be a good hire but not a great hire. If Butch's goal is to win championships, then I would rather have someone like Shoop whose proven to have elite defenses the likes of Penn St. & Vandy. Either way, I'll trust Butch with whoever he hires.
See, that's interesting...been trying to wrap my head around the "elite" part.
2015 Season

I'm not saying the guy might not be better than Jancek, but he's not the guy from BC who just got hired at Michigan, or the guy who just got hired by LSU from Wisconsin (I think)...
Obviously, Shoop can get good results with lesser players, but under the circumstances I think Jancek was in the same boat this particular season and certainly last season as well.
Somebody posted Shoops avg def rankings going back to Vandy and he was top 25 min. As perspective Mason's first year they dropped into the 60's and Mason's a defensive guy. Add in the guy is a lockdown for recruiting the midstate which we have faltered a tad at this year. He'd be good.
A quick google search of Gene Chizik shows he was hired by the University of Tennessee January, 2016?? Anyone know anything about this??
I'm not calling BS or anything, I'm just not sure Shoop is that much better than Jancek and top 25 is not elite to me, but it's not like a know jack about it.
All I know is Butch has proved me wrong a bunch and he just iced his buddy heading into the most promosing year of his entire career. Last coordinator hire of Butch's I questioned lead us to our best rushing stats since the 50's when passing was a novelty. I won't question this one.

You get a like for an actual level headed response... People doubted the hire when he became HC. Everyone loves him now. They doubted he could recruit. They doubted he could make the hard choice to let a man loose, he was too loyal... Everyone has been wrong so far, I won't doubt him and who he decides to hire...
Ed Orgeron would bring:
1. a clean reputation to the Big Orange
2. energy on that side of the ball
3. another great recruiter to the staff
4. and pound Azzani into the ground during the staff flag football match.
He knows what it takes to play SEC championship defense and if I were him I would be looking to upgrade from a position coach and get out of Baton Rouge.
1/2 blue font but kinda serious
It's funny. I thought the Debord hire made sense on a lot of levels, but I understand where you are coming from.
I think this change might have less to do with football and more to do with a couple of guys that have spent too much time together and personalities clashing.
I'm with you though. It's his program, he knows better than I do that's for sure.
GBO!!!
