DC announcement ?

Probably when we have hired a DC. I'm not convinced that Shoop has signed on the dotted line yet. It's starting to sound more and more like he's going to lobby Penn State for a raise.

Shoop cannot resign until he gets Franklin to understand that he is leaving for 'that school down the road' since Franklin does not have the word Tennessee in his vocabulary.

I dare say they won't be in much of a rush. A lot goes into those negotiations especially if he is trying to bring some of his guys with him. It would probably be pretty cool of Butch to let him break the news to his players first instead of having to hear it on the news like everyone else.

Well... He works for Penn State and nothing's been announced here so.... That's the truth until somebody announces that it's not.

So the statement "....It's starting to sound more and more like he's going to lobby Penn State for a raise." Is based on what?

It's what he did with LSU 2 yrs ago and Auburn last year. I think we have to assumeme that it's 50/50 that he's doing it again.

He didn't bring his wife. The right thing to do is talk over with his family and tell his players before it gets announced.

So, this is purely assumption/speculation based on nothing that has happened during his meeting with Tennessee. I see.

What else would it be? That's all any of us can do. Neither of us was there, so all we can do is guess at what happens next.

..and you base this assumption on what?

Pure speculation, honestly. But if there is an offer on the table, Shoop at least has leverage to get a raise at PSU. After the whole HC search fiasco a few years ago, I'm not convinced until the new coach has been introduced. Call me jaded, but that's just how I see it.

I'm not saying Shoop didn't or won't take the DC position here, but I'm not counting my chickens just yet.

Maybe Bob can convey the idea by drawing pictures.

I agree. I know I wouldn't take a job without consulting my family, but he now has the opportunity for a counter offer from Penn State. No one except the people in that room know if he has already signed a contract.

Would be kind of funny if PSU gives him a raise and he ends up making more than Franklin

It's fine to say it's how you see it, but your wording makes it seem like there is some reason to seriously belive your opinion is more than just that when it is admittedly uninformed and based solely on jaded pessimism.

Actually, I was addressing the original person who posted this. They stated it "sounds more and more like....." That is absolutely not true. He/she has no news to base a "sounds like" statement of off. I could just as easily say "it sounds like he is signed/sealed/delivered and just went back to tell his players face to face". But, I have nothing to substantiate that statement.

Yeah, I'd count them up this way:

Dave knows. Butch knows. Butch and Dave's wives probably know. DeBord knows. DeBord's wife probably knows. Shoop knows. Shoop's wife knows. Shoop's agent and the lawyer who was with Shoop's agent both know. About a half dozen people in the Tennessee AD's office know.

That's 13-16 people. Which makes it about 11-14 more than the maximum allowed if you REALLY want a secret to stay secret.

When LWS and others say it's a done deal, I'm betting they really do know someone who was in that room or close enough to hear, and it's a done deal.

Let's give Coach Shoop time to have the approprirate pre-reveal meetings on his end.

It's not based solely on jaded pessimism, it's based on good business sense.

It would be stupid to not approach PSU for a raise and possibly get the two schools in a bidding war. That's how you get more money. I'm not aware of any significant ties that Shoop has to UT, so I would assume that this comes down to money. He's had success at PSU, so it's safe to believe that he's at least somewhat happy there. I know from personal experience that more money to leave a job you like isn't always a good thing, but it's also hard to say no when you're looking at all those zeroes.

Well, somebody on here suggested it would happen Monday so that it was rolling across the ticker tape during the National Championship game... which really DOES sound like Butch's way of doing things.

I also hold a lot of weight in what LWS says. I'm not sure he's ever given incorrect information. I'm just not quite ready to take everything as fact.
