DB Play

Watching Flowers play is exhausting and the rest of our DBs aren’t much better. Flowers never turns his head for the ball, getting destroyed. Hopefully this can be worked out before our next game.
The problem with the DB play is the DL play. No DBs, none, can cover WRs when the DTs and DEs are allergic to the opposing offensive backfield like our guys are.

Needs a lot of work, like much of the D.

I hate to say it but we all knew our secondary was gonna be bad so why do you feel the need to make a thread about it

The play calling on defense has been bad. We haven't blitzed enough with the LBs and bringing CB blitzes in the 2nd half exposed the freshman DBs. Gonna be a long season. Looks like we got another 5 year project. Don't get me started with the half ass read option, with a bad oline. We should've been in the iform the entire game. We can't have a positive rushing yard without a lead blocker.

FR look like FR as expected. Not worried there. The upper class players are just average.

More worried about LBs that are nowhere to be found on most plays.

I sure expected much more out of #18. Anyone else? I don't think I've seen him mentioned; he's living up to his first name but not his last name.

What has disappointed me in this game more than anything is our line of scrimmage play on both sides of the ball. We have been physically whipped by a Big 12 team.
I think our o line played good after the first quarter. The d line needs some work. Couldn't get any QB pressure and WV got 4-5 yards on the ground whenever they ran it.

Just going to be honest,I have no clue what Pruitt has seen from him in practice but as a
“DB guru” how hard is to realize all game they picked on flowers and still didint adjust to give him more help on his side of the ball..most of the points scored came from him getting beat with zero help behind him

If we’re being real though. I am way more disappointed in our Dline. Can’t get pressure at all

Watched the DL as much as I could and, yes, no pressure on Grier for most of the game. While that won't help the DBs much, or at all, but the DB play was a league of its own. They were a step or two behind, out of position and never found the ball.

As an aside, CJP has said that DB play dictates what a defense can/cannot do. Well if today is an indicator it's gonna be a long year, freshmen and all.

This is exactly what I thought all game. Is this the worst D-line we’ve ever had?

My thoughts as well. OL got it together and put a hurt on WVA. Front 7 seem to play tired, DBs didn't show up.

Flowers only played one year of football in high school. He's a developmental project. We had three true freshmen playing most of the game against one of the best QB's in the country with three very good WR's. This was a bad matchup from the start for our secondary.

If you really want to complain, worry that we only put up 14 points against a Big 12 defense.

Excuses. We’re tired of them. 10+ years of them

It doesn't matter what you're tired of. UT football will be here long after you are gone. This is a rebuild. Pruitt has his work cut out for him, hopefully he will coach 'em up and we will see progress by season's end. Most of us knew this, you are behind the curve. Man up and quit whining.

They all look slow as usual
