Quality journalism at The Athletic begins and ends with Bruce Feldman.
Journalism used to be populated by smart people that loved sports, writing entertaining stories with sometimes profound insight. Was wonderful to read well thought out, provoking pieces.
If u stand out nowadays you’re canceled though.
Mediocrity is the norm now

I bought the athletic and have enjoyed several of his pieces. Tennessee has very captivating stories, props to him for digging them up. His writing style isn't exactly my flavor, and I wish he'd proof his stuff a little more, but his articles are worth the cost of admission. Seems like a nice guy fwiw.

nah it was and still an industry populated with egotistical blowhards that were the equivalent of Clint Eastwood telling people to get off his lawn. I don’t need to read another article about how a guy hitting a grand slam on a 3-0 count is “ruining” baseball or how sports suck now and they’ll never be good anymore. The internet also did it’s fair share to kill publications where these guys would fart out their semi annual grievance articles. Then you have the access whores like Michael Wilbon or Bill Simmons where they can’t help themselves from dropping names every 2 sentences and write puff pieces about their favorite athletes from 20-30 years ago. I get it, it’s hard to do your job if you’re not kissing butt to get the quotes, but it makes for terrible reading. I don’t need to know about Tom Brady’a fake doctor’s remedies for sunburn. And Rick Reilly should be tried for crimes against humanity for getting a paycheck for the last 20 years.
