David Oku to play at Arkansas State

All Vol fan here, but am an A-State grad. Jonesboro is a nice enough town in a rural area and only an hour or so to Memphis. Good incubator for some of the 2 and 3 stars, and reclamation projects of whom y'all like to make fun. For the gray hairs like me names like Bill Bergey, Maurice Carthon and Leroy Harris played there. Some of you might have heard of Larry Lacewell and Ray Perkins - head coaches there in the past. It is no where near the level of our Vols, but it isn't an Alcorn State either. Best accounting/business school in the delta region.

Good for Oku
He should fit in very well in Gus's offense.

I wish him the best. Thiscould get him to the next level.

over rated back, and dyer will be in jail, so no gain for them. just never did have any confidence in oku.

Jonesboro, Ark...is a great place....I've been to K town too.....Arkansas won't play em.....Remember Lacewell came from A State to Tenn....We didn't do so bad with him as D Coord.....better than Wilcox:good!:

Dooley gave him more PT. He basically had twice as many carries in 2010 as he did with Kiffin in 2009. Kiffin gave him most of his chances in the game against WKU and on KO returns. In 2010 he had less KO returns and more catches than the year before.

Oku put on too much weight and got slow. Don't know if that was Wylie's fault or what. Dooley gave him plenty of chances. He really didn't have much of a choice. He never showed the speed he had coming out of high school. Hope he does well at Arkansas State.

How can several of you not understand this? First, it's Oku AND Dyer. Dyer has rushed for well over 5 yards per carry in his first two years combined in the SEC, as his team's premier back as a freshman and sophomore. Oku, as a freshman and sophomore, averaged more yards per carry than both Poole and Lane last season. As a kick returner, he was our premiere guy by far his freshman season and seemed to slip back a little in 2010.

Now, take all of that, combine it together, and match them up against Sun Belt teams instead of SEC teams. And Arkansas State just won the Sun Belt last season, so it's not like they're hoping these two can carry the team by themselves. They will dominate the Sun Belt in 2013, IMO. Could be interesting to see them play at Auburn that year as well, assuming Gus is still there.

Ark State took it to an HNL (hole nuver level) when they changed their name from the Indians to the Red Wolves.

I typed that backwards. As the rest of my post suggest CLK had little to do with Oku's career.

Wrong. He was born and raised in Fort Smith. Opposite side of the state from Jonesboro, in every sense of the word.

The Hog fanbase is divided over Gus. I don't think he'll ever coach there again.

BTW, I'm an ASU grad and Red Wolf fan and season ticket holder. Also a Vol fan by the way, been one since I was a child.
