David Oku signs with Tennessee

So, a guy who takes time to make sure this is where he wants to spend four years of his life is and idiot...oh yeah, he is also 18. Congrats are in order. Maybe you are the headcase!!!

The only two things I cared about when I was 18 were getting drunk and getting laid. Thank $DEITY that I didn't have a bunch of Internet psychologists analyzing my mental prowess on a message board.

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Oku sticks to word

In the end, David Oku of Lincoln (Neb.) East said he felt like he had to stick with his word.

David Oku has signed with Tennessee.
Oku, the nations' No. 1 all-purpose back, told Rivals.com Thursday evening he has signed his national letter of intent with Tennessee, the school he originally committed to early in the recruiting process before he opened his recruitment again and looked at schools like Auburn, Syracuse, Ole Miss and others.

"I signed and faxed my papers in about 7:30," said Oku, who moved recently from Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert to Nebraska to focus on academics.

"I felt like I had to stick with my word. I really feel like the offense is going to be a good fit for me, and the coaches also made me feel really comfortable."

Oku originally committed to Tennessee back on Oct. 18, but then he backed out of it after the coaching change in Knoxville. He later took an visits to Syracuse and Auburn after earlier visiting Tennessee, Nebraska and Louisville. Ole Miss and Clemson were also somewhat involved, but in the end, he decided to sign with Tennessee.

"Sometimes you know how you get cold feet, and that's kind of what happened here," Oku said.

"But I also have a great relationship with Gerald Jones since he's from Oklahoma, too. He's going to be there for a while, and I'll be able to look to him for guidance and support.

"But I'm done now. All the worries are gone. I'm excited to be a Vol."

yes and waiting til after signing day gives you even more attention

i'm just not 100% sold on the guy. is he talented? of course, but he's also got some red flags around him as well

But yet he faxes his LOI on a Thursday night out of nowhere with no fanfare? I am not really buying the "me, me, me" attention craving gimmick after doing that.

I have always liked Oku. I really like his running style, unlike some I think he can be an every down back. He is the one running back I have always hoped we would end up with, even more then brown.

great point my friend! I talked a little about this in the other thread on Oku too. I also thought he was all about the attention and the press coverage. But after the way he handled his signing, and looking back, I think he even denied all interviews after signing day, I have to believe the kid was just focused on making the right decision for himself. Welcome aboard Oku! It's great to be a Vol!

I was so excited about the beat down in Columbia that I just learned about this....great news - GO BIG ORANGE -- by the way, did anyone else see Bobby Knight at Spurrier's practice? too funny

Well I got home from the bar last night and saw this, but I was too drunk to post...sooo GO VOLS!!!

I'm actually not excited at all about this guy. I think something will come up with his grades and this strange switch in high schools, and he won't even be able to play next season. Also, I really wouldn't put it past him to change his mind again once he learns that he'll have to give up a season because of bad grades.

Ah-eee-oooo killer Oku...
