David Letterman: A Mean Guy

I love Dylan, but if I had to choose between Knockin' on Heaven's Door or Don't Take Your Guns to Town (since they are literally the exact same theme), I'ma have to go with Cash.

That's a surprise that you like Johnny Cash. Johnny and Willie sing that song on their live album. My son loves Johnny Cash and can play many of his songs on his Fender Stratocaster. Though he keeps hinting he wants the "Johnny Cash" Gibson. Just don't know if I want to shell out $5000 for a guitar. It doesn't even have an ebony fret board. He has an old 1958 Gibson Country Western he inherited from his gramps.

Damn feds under the Obama administration did one of their political hatchet jobs on Gibson and as long as Obama is in charge Gibson won't be putting any ebony fret boards on their guitars. Pisses me off.

I was on the "$5,000 is worth it" wagon until I saw that he had a '58 GCW.

I've got a Black Beauty custom that is currently out of commission, and a '67 Teisco del Ray ET460. Craziest looking guitar you'll see. It's a Japanese surf rock/punk guitar.

There are websites you can go to if you don't mind having the fret board replaced.

Lol, "heavy into pot."

Truth be told, you're seeing punk culture and bluegrass culture beginning to merge since they essentially advocate the same lifestyle. I knew a travelling bluegrass group of train kids and buskers who did enough narcotics in an hour to drop a rhino.

Thing was... they could still play amazing music. A little part of me envies that lifestyle.

Dink knows what's up

I need to get that Gibson refurbished. It is worth about $2500 because it is not in very good condition. It was played a lot in honky tonks and on the road a lot. Still have the original Gibson case. But, it would cost about $1000 or so to refurbish it with Gibson and would only increase value by about $1000. So, wouldn't lose any money by doing so. It is a family heirloom so we wouldn't sell it anyway.

P.S.-The damn case would cost more to refurbish than the guitar. I've talked to a couple of guys who refurbish old trunks and what not. Those guys are expensive.

You must be new to bluegrass. Doc Watson is dead and predates punk music.

Doc was playing lead on acoustic guitar before there was rock.

Chuck Berry cited Bill Monroe's mandolin playing as an influence on his guitar work.

I know full well who he was, but his music predates neither punk nor bluegrass.

I'm fairly certain there's not much you can teach me about music ;-)

Oh, I'm sure I know things from Gregorian Chants that you've never heard of. ;)

Bluegrass, by name, is a very young genre of music.

Speaking in terms of the contemporary, it's as old as most major genres. Although, people think punk is only 40 years old. It goes back to ska, and ska goes back a good while.

You ever get ****faced and listen to Dirty Old Town? (Pogues)

Disappointing that Letterman reruns aren't airing. CBS is airing other shows (The Mentalist) until Colbert starts in September.

I actually like Neil Young, and my wife thinks I'm nuts. It can't be any cool factor, because I believe that this is the first time I ever told anyone (other than my wife) that I like him.
My wife likes Neil Young. Maybe because I learned 'Needle and the Damage Done' on guitar. (not that hard)
