I do like Cut but don't want him for hfc at UTK. That ship sailed long ago. Apparently, a large segment of our fanbase has bought into the idea that if you can be above average at a traditionally sucky program it must mean that you will blow it up at a traditionally good program. It's flawed thinking. Many of these schools like Duke and Miss State have made a push by changing their scheduling priorities for ooc games and capitalizing on some annual opponents being in the ditch.

And there are far more equally pompous, self-important, know-it-all “insiders” within our fanbase who reflexively label some awfully good coaches who would come here, and do a much better job than the ass who just got fired, as a bad coach that we don’t want or need. It really is amazing to read so many of these posts.

I’ll just leave it at that.

Agree on coach Cut. I have a soft spot for him, but yeah, that ship has sailed. Gonna disagree with your not so veiled shot at Mullen :).

I guess we could trade out Verizon for Geritol as the presser sponsor.

Cut would have been the right choice following the departure of Fulmer or Kiffen...maybe Dooley. That train has left the station.

Cutcliff is a good coach, but is now too old and would have a hard time recruiting at an elite level in the SEC:popcorn:

Cut is an outstanding coach....organizer, disciplined, tough and innovative with his offense. As I posted earlier, Duke won 17 games in the 10 years prior to him being hired there....now, not quite 10 years later, they’ve won 47....at that crap program. Give him the resources that Tennessee has and he’d do very, very well here....a helluva lot better than the blithering idiot of the last 5 years, that I can tell you (Trump voice). 😁

I say let Coach Cut retire at Duke. Less stress on him, plus don’t think he would help us much here anyways.

Cut had some serious health issues a few years back - I recall he left a job at Notre Dame for some reason. I hope he is doing fine now. I have a hard time picturing David coming back to the Vols at his age but indeed he is an excellent coach. This is a hard scenario to envision in 2017.

Cutcliffe is a nice fit at Duke and needs to stay there.

He did OK at Ole Miss. Nothing really blockbuster.

He brought some questionable assistants with him when he bailed Fulmer out for a couple of seasons after Sanders was fired. Matt Luke and Kurt Roper aren't the kind of recruiters or coaches a program needs to become elite again in the SEC.

Hiring him would be the equivalent of Thanksgiving dinner consisting of mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce.

I'm simply amazed at you millennials. First you dissed Mike Debord for his age. Of course that garbage ended after his record setting team 120's offensive run. He was smart leaving when he did. I'd take Cut in a New York minute. Those knocking him just aren't yet old enough to realize it...not yet.

The first error in this post was paying any attention at all to Footballscoop. It may be the worst sports info site on the internet. The guy who runs it is the same guy who said there was 0 chance Harbaugh would go to Michigan.

If Cut is so good then why hasn’t his name popped up for any of the top jobs over the past 5 years? If only UT administration thinks he’s a good coach then that should tell you something.
