I tried searching for thread by typing in "David Blackburn" in quotes like Freak said to do when searching, but no luck so I figured I would start new thread. Now that game is behind us, I was thinking about this topic, and wondered if anyone has heard anything recently? Last I heard either Larry or Deerpark said he believes he will be our guy and should happen quickly.

Going to be low key throughout the season. Proper respect for Hart and UTC.

I'd imagine that since UTC is part of the university system that, even if Blackburn was hired as UTK's next athletic director, they'd let him keep running UTC until it was in a place to hire their next AD

But even if they're still looking, I would've thought that the AD search will take a lot longer than normal since Hart's last day is technically in the summer of 2017

Just remember who he trained under and worked for, for many years before you wish too hard for him.

Hart wanted to stay longer; UT wanted him to go sooner. Allowing him to fulfill responsibilities through the football season and get credit for the B@B was a compromise. The new AD will be on board before Hart's contract technically expires, though, and if there are any critical changes or decisions to be made, Hart won't make them.

CBJ is really pushing behind the scenes for Whit Babcock even though he is close with Blackburn. I was also told that Blackburn will not interview or put his name out as interested publicly unless he is assured of getting the job.

Trained under Dickey and Fulmer. If you knew him at all, you'd know that he was a rare voice of reason inside the Hamilton administration.

He's taken Chattanooga from a doormat in just about everything to being a solid athletics program in a very short time.

Does the board of trustees make this decision? If so, surely it will be Blackburn.

It has to be Blackburn.

This should be a slam dunk. But watching this admin screw it up isn't outside the realm of possibility.

Exactly. Chatt's Football team is outstanding and now wins the SoCon on an annual basis. Men's BBall team won 29 games and made the tourney last year. Women's BBall team nationally ranked, beat the Lady Vols, won their conference and made the tourney for the 3rd straight year. He has done a great job there and it's ridiculous for any idiot UT fan to try and discredit him because he trained under the last HOF coach to win a national title at Tennessee. Just unbelievable.

Blackburn didn't hire Huesman. He did hire Will Wade and Matt McCall though. The women's basketball team has always been really good.

Huesman was 23-21 in his 4 years prior to Blackburn getting to UTC and never finished higher than 4th in the conference....he's 28-12 with 3 straight SoCon titles since David became his boss. Perhaps he's had a positive influence on the direction of the program?

And as you said, he's hired two excellent men's bball coaches and was also responsible for getting Foster as well. Other school programs have also flourished. By all accounts he's done an outstanding job there.

I think it's more accurate to say that Blackburn has helped him get all the resources and support he needs to be successful in his time there. He was playing with a short deck before DB raised some money and invested in the program.

Exactly what I was suggesting.

No offense to Mr Babcock, I think he's a pretty good AD. But no more outsider, small potatoes please. Blackburn should be the first, second, third and fourth choices.

The coaches are aggressively lobbying their own agendas. CBJ is pushing Babcock; Rick Barnes is pushing Jon Gilbert. The new AD will remember this, and there may come a time when they wish they had been more politic.

For those on Vol Nation that are really serious about their support of David Blackburn as our next UTAD, I would suggest that you send an email to the Office of the UT President. I've found that keeping such correspondence positive has a greater impact. Send emails to the Attention of Dr. Joe DiPietro.

If he's that shallow, we picked the wrong guy.
