David Amerson, CB, N.C. State vs Justin Hunter

Uhhhhh, i took the bait and watched it. And that has to be the worst evaluation of a player I've ever heard. That kid is a stud! No wonder he's projected top 5 in the upcoming draft.

A lot of zone there, but those were some terrific plays on the ball. Only one was a gimme. I guarantee you Austin Rogers does not catch a 1/3 of those balls last year!

I'm sorry, but if I'm CJC, I scheme w that kid as one of the main check offs. We have enough weapons to burn the rest of their D. I would not be stupid and test him for chest bumping reasons that's for sure.

Hunter can beat him some of the time, but good coaching goes for the "lower hanging fruit" IMO.

100% agree with this post. This dude is a stud and has great ball skills regardless of how bad some of the throws were. After watching him, I think he can cover JH. I hope they don't lock down our #2 receiver with this guy and double JH with two others. We won't have anybody open.

if Hunter or CP gets their hands on the ball at any point, in any game, with their speed??......even rod wilks would have trouble catching them:rock::rock:

Off Topic But the Vandy game is sold out.. im impressed gas prices are up but guessing SCAR fans dont care? or is it Vandy fans??!! :yikes:

This thread is unbelievable. Totally dismissing an All American DB as "lucky" and "being at the right place at the right time". Classic homerism BS - our players are underrated and everyone else's stars are overrated. Grow up people.

You grow up you negative bastard. Come back and spill your negative BS after the game.

The one against Virginia, where he ripped it out of dudes hands was sweet. There's no denying he is good but I've heard multiple ppl say Hunter is one of the best Wrs they've ever played. Even EB had All good things to say about him

Sold out a 43,000 seat stadium. Two days before a nationally televised game with a supposed "fired up" fanbase. Mark me as impressed.

NC State has a decent secondary, but is weak at LB.

Expect offense to try to establish run early and often. Hunter and Patterson will run deep sprints to pull off corners and safeties. When (and if) their D starts cheating up to help with the run, THEN expect us to start passing.

Again, INT numbers for NCSU last year:

Temple: 1st String (3), 2nd String (1)
Central Mich: 1st (4)
South Alabama: 1st (3)
Virginia: 1st (0), 2nd (3)

So that's 11 INTs against horrible competition and another 3 against a backup QB. It's also not really homerism because I'm honestly concerned about Bray and our passing game. We haven't really ever established a good passing game against quality opponents yet IMO.

I don't care what we did against Cincinnati or Buffalo last year. And, yes, I know Bray broke his thumb and was rusty against Vandy/Kentucky last year. I'm just not overly confident in our passing game yet. I'm just not going to look at how many INTs NCSU got last year and say "yep, they're beast". Cause most of them were against bads.

Cincy tore them apart. Virginia was doing well then their starter went out. FSU tore them apart.

My prediction is Bray will throw 2 picks and likely one to Amerson. However, I think he goes for 350+ yards and 3-4 TDs. He'll throw picks, but then again they won't matter. I also think our running game finally finds its feet.

McShay just said Amerson was his #3 guy in the draft next year. Havent seen him play but he must be pretty amazing.

It may be true that Amerson isn't necessarily a lock-down corner. We run plenty of 2-deep zone, so he often has safety help behind him. The better QBs in the ACC didn't even throw his way, so yes, most of his ints came from lesser squads. I wouldn't slight him though, the dude is gamer.

Last year's nickleback, Dontae Johnson, will now start at corner. He played extremely well towards the end of last season. Many 'Pack fans see this as a slight upgrade.

What burned us last year was giving up a lot of underneath completions. It seemed as if our philosophy was 'bend but don't break', and that didn't always work.

Amerson has 2 picks against liberty, they hey threw 4 in the game. 1 against s alabama. 1 against cinci. 2 of the 4 picks thrown my central michigan. 2 of the 3 thrown by virginia. 1 of the 3 by north carolina. 1against boston college. 1 against clemson. 2 against louisville. Count me as not impressed.

DAVID AMERSON 2011 HIGHLIGHTS - YouTube

I don't know - some of those looked like pretty darn good picks to me - i thought he showed really good instincts, great ability to meet the ball at its highest point, really good ability to run after the catch, and good ability to erase some space

the UNC was a garbage throw, but there were some really nice plays in there too

Wonder if this will be "The Matchup"?

David Amerson solidified his status as one of college football's best ball-hawking defensive backs with his breakout 2011 campaign.
Amerson picked off an ACC record 13 passes during his All-American sophomore season, which means he'll now be one of the most feared defenders in college football in 2012.
Don't expect the 6'3'', 194-pound junior to get tested very often this season, since opposing quarterbacks won't be eager to challenge the lockdown corner.

I would not consider him a lockdown corner as they play zone 90 percent of the time.....

I hope you guys try to do this against our offense, we are very fast on that side of the ball in particular.....one broken tackle and a 5 yard gain becomes a 20 yard gain.

Amerson is a talented player for sure, but one corner isn't going to shut down our offense. I wouldn't worry too much about him Vol fans because we have played corners that were just as good in the SEC.

The kid looks like he's real impressed with himself.

No way he can shut down hunter. and those passes he picked? crappy passes, for the most part. Bray throws on target.

What's that supposed to mean. He's actually incredibly humble for what he's accomplished. All he does is go out there and do his job. You know, does his talking on the field.

For those who just look at stats: Amerson is not going to be matched up 1 on 1 with Hunter very often. They are a predominantly zone team, mostly cover 3 with some cover 2 sprinkled in.

no. nc st is not dumb enough to have him 1 on 1 with JH or CP, he would get roasted. Amerson is not a lock down corner, he is a very good zone corner.

this & that
