Wonder if this will be "The Matchup"?

David Amerson solidified his status as one of college football's best ball-hawking defensive backs with his breakout 2011 campaign.
Amerson picked off an ACC record 13 passes during his All-American sophomore season, which means he'll now be one of the most feared defenders in college football in 2012.
Don't expect the 6'3'', 194-pound junior to get tested very often this season, since opposing quarterbacks won't be eager to challenge the lockdown corner.

Bray said they wont treat him differently than any other corner. He may make a few plays but there is no way he shuts down Justin Hunter for 4 quarters. Not gonna happen.

They gotta put this kid on Justin Hunter every down. And I can't wait to see the results. I don't know if Hunter will take him all the time, I just don't think he can cover Hunter effectively every time they match up. Hunter is just too good. I think Hunter is good for at least two long receptions in this game, even against Amerson.

NC St will not let Hunter beat them. Hunter will see double coverage most of the game. Rivera will have lot of catches. CP will get single coverage because of the unknown factor. We will see if he can backup all the hype game 1.

He's not giving up any size to Hunter.

For those who just look at stats: Amerson is not going to be matched up 1 on 1 with Hunter very often. They are a predominantly zone team, mostly cover 3 with some cover 2 sprinkled in.

The only thing that scares me is a lot of hunter's catches are from Bray just throwing it up, and hoping hunter gets it. Amerson might get a couple picks.

For those who haven't watched Amerson's highlight reel, take a look. This is all 13 of his INT's last season. Looks like he was the lucky recipient of mostly terrible throws from bad QB's. Some of these INT's almost look like they were thrown to him on purpose.

By halftime, they may rethink their coverages after CP goes for 100+ and 2 tds......I think he is gonna be that good! DR was great and will be missed, but CP may make the history books as a UT receiver this season. I truly believe he is one and done unless they all come back for a run at a championship next year:loco:.

The first INT looked pretty good. The UNC and UVA qbs looked mildly retarded. The rest were jump balls and double+ coverage.

No doubt dude is a beast, and if you have 13 picks in a year of course some will be lucky and many will be bad throws..

..BUT...Can't help but notice the competition:

Liberty x 2
Cincy (who we murdered)
S. Alabama
C. Michigan x 2
Virginia x 2

Look like several of them were zone (as we know they mostly like to play) where he is lurking underneath and makes a good athletic play to get the ball.

Dude looked pretty impressive to me. There were several that were great plays on the ball, ripping one away from the receiver, diving catches. He can run with it too. Swanson, your homerism is almost too much to bear - Amerson is a gamer and is underrated if anything.

The guy plays his position well . Not disrespecting the young man at all . THAT was a lot of very bad throws from those quarterbacks . Only 2 -3 of those int's where actually a "what a move " moments . Throw at him , Early and often . Just don't make the stupid throws at him . Imo Jmo . But really I think Fade could have caught half those ,J/K fade .

Dude has talent but, most of these picks are terrible passes by the quarterbacks and one was a Hail Mary at the end of a game! I definitely believe Bray will make better throws and it will be harder for #1 to have any pick against Tennessee! JMO

Question for you:

Is the Panthers defense this good or is Tebow just that bad?

That one's on Tebow - there were 4 defenders and no receivers I could spot. But it was still a nice catch by the DB.

And all you posters banging on the QBs in the highlight reel, I have a questions for you: Isn't virtually EVERY interception because of a bad throw?

He's a good player. No denying that. He's a playmaker and he has great size and hands for a CB. That being said, there are plenty of Amerson's in the SEC.
