Dave's Insult/Derogatory terms with meanings from Back In The Day Thread.

Using the N word as an adjective to describe a person has never been OK and is not the same as the example with your son.
The only time that word crosses my mind is when I see or read about vile or criminal behavior by people. Of course I don’t call anybody that verbally.

By your standard.
People living in a different time may have a different opinion.

How about “colored” is that always bad?
Before you answer, remember that some black people want to be called “people of color again “

I won’t be condemning an entire previous generation as racist when their actions don’t reflect the charge.

I lived in the 1990s as well. I never was like "Guard the N Center", "Pass the Ball to the N Forward", "Box out the N guard". Why, because it was wrong then and it is wrong now.

The standard in 1930s Germany was to use incredibly offensive slurs towards certain segments of the population. Was that right since it was the culturally accepted standard in Germany at that time?

I get it.
You have a moral compass. I do too. That doesn’t mean the previous generation is automatically a **** human being for using a term that we now universally agree is bad.
Sure the majority were in ignorance and thought of different people as lesser than themselves but I still don’t condemn all as there were clearly people who used the term with no negative energy.

So were you wrong when you used the term “oriental” ? Or Gypsies?
Should you now apologize to everyone for your racism?

Well that certainly depends. I have friends that use those terms towards me now.
One is a guy who helped take care of my father at the end.
Am I wrong for allowing it as I know this guy loves me and I would trust him with my life?

Or does context matter?

Is this sentence wrong now? How about 1935 Germany? There is no personal connection between the two people.

I live four doors down from the (Insert Jewish Slur) contractor.

You can’t condemn the motives of everyone based on your (general you not you personally) limited experience and knowledge.

Well I guess you (general again) could but I don’t think you (personally) are stupid. As a matter of fact I think quite the opposite. I also think you understand what I’m saying but are now just arguing to argue. I have a redhead that does that too.

And if we’re being honest, I find entertainment in that as well.

Headed to Kentucky so I’m out.
You can have the parting shot if you want it. Red likes having the last word but I don’t want to assume that everyone else does too.
(See what I did there)

Super Dave suggested "we should" start a thread like this in another thread. Since I knew HE wouldn't, I started it for him.

And that Nickledick hasn't posted or liked any post in it.
Well

He better respond to my @ from earlier today. That was a well thought out post.

There's no need for the last word since I'm right. I am sure you have heard that from a certain redhead before. ;)

The girls who were gonna sleep with pretty much anyone because they wanted to get preggers were known as babysitters.
No, I did not.
Jabroney was for a slightly annoying individual
Doorknob was a slut. Everyone gets a turn.
Oreos were the white girls who dated the black guys.

Jabroney is a whippersnapper term associated with the surge in pro “wrestling” fandom ~mid 80s.
