Davenport: We're still champions

UT Athletics is ONLY ONE aspect of the university that she must be tuned into. Some of you seem to think this should be her only focus - it shouldn't even be her number 1 priority.

UT is an educational university FIRST. They also participate in the NCAA as a choice to do so.

BTW

The University of Tennessee has garnered 23 team national championships all-time including eight in women's basketball, six in football and a combined seven NCAA Championships in Track & Field. UT has also won 8 Spirit Championships and 198 conference championships.

So saying there is absolutely nothing wrong with saying "another championship".

I personally don't gad about what she, Currie, Jones or any of the coaches and higher up administration say. Blah blah blah. It doesn't matter. If they "say" stupid crap and things are going well, who cares? If they're saying it and it's not, we'll find out "what's up", and I can't do a damn thing about it. It is what it is.

As far as Athletics not being number 1 priority, lol, I agree, but it should at least SEEM like it's as important as it IS. It hasn't and unfortunately, still doesn't.

Jmo.

Tennessee hasn't won but 1 National Championship in football in 65 years but some of you expect them to win it every year.

Wrong. We expect to play in the SECC more often. Win a few and things will take care of themselves. And stop shooting selves in foot yr after yr after yr

How many ships did TN win its first 65 yrs? That history counts too.

Clemson has won 2 of 3 in 30+ yrs
LSU won 2 in 15+ yrs
FL won 3 in 20+ yrs

And I believe TN has an overall better history than all 3.
Difference is starting at the very top all the way down.

So expectations should be high...but I believe you went over
board about every yr. Even bammer can't do that.

She is a Chancelor. What do you expect?

CBJ is a football coach. What do you expect?

We're a football school! Should have someone in there that understands that!

We needed a better FOOTBALL COACH! Because we are a football school.

That's what I expect!

UT was a School of Higher Learning long before participating in FOOTBALL. The Chancellor has more to fool with than FOOTBALL. Even the Director of Athletics has more than FOOTBALL on his plate.

I know, I know UT means FOOTBALL, but it also means a lot more.

Who is this better FOOTBALL COACH you want?

Any better one will do. Just pick one.

If it was that easy, that's who would have replaced Fulmer.

It's not that easy.

I believe it's the top donor/ donors and top administration that's the main problem. I believe if Saban wanted to come and coach their would be some...maybe not all.. top donor/ donors and administration that wouldn't want to pay the $ or give up the power. Saban isn't a yes man but a winner which makes $ and increase enrollment and TN would screw it up....Imo

Surely even the most Miserable of you Legions, can appreciate how awesome the Power T formed by students and fans (who showed up at 4:30a.m.) looked on national TV.

On second thought, I'm sure you will find something with it to be miserable about. Carry on.

Big money is in charge and they seem to be more concerned about their own ego than a NC.

Saban does want to come here, for the right money.

None of that changes what CBJ has done. With some bounces here and there 2017 could turn out to exceed everybody's expectations.

I like our chances.

Figure it out Butch.

It was the Today show. Who watches that?
If it wasn't for Davenport calling it another championship, I would have missed it all together.

I don't have faith in CBJ in taking it to another level but I respect your opinion and hope im wrong.

Soooo....your point is that people shouldn't be upset about not winning because we are not winning??

No, but the way some people talk, we should win it every year. And with our track record over the last 66 years you can't say we are really a championship contender year in and year out. Phil got lazy and the program took a nosedive. 3 coaches later we are still fighting our way back. What have we done since 1998? Not a whole lot give or take a couple seasons. Sometimes expectations are set way to high with what you have to work with.

Sometimes expectations are set right but those in power don't want to spend the right amount of money to meet those expectations! Why should UT pay for quality coaches and successful programs when we spend the money we do to support cheap half ass programs?
