Davenport Fired

I believe she was good for UT football, and without her we’d have Schino and Currie. Sad day as we step back into the Haslam shadow that has cursed our university for the last 15 years.

In the end, yes, when she had no choice, when she went into self preservation mode and had to turn to Fulmer. Prior to that however, she was a full-on Haslamite who gladly chose Currie over Phil and was evidently all for Schiano until it was an untenable position given the fan blowback.

Your “self preservation” theory doesn’t really hold up. In light of recent events.

Same boat. My daughter is two years in at Georgetown in International Studies (focus: Middle East) having dreamed of working in a Hillary Clinton State Department...

Hopefully my son, who starts at Rice in the Fall in Engineering (and Yes! he was just named Valid Victorian at the high screwel last night; which makes us 2-for-2 in that department no thanks to yours truly who was always traveling and now always working), will not become quite so brainwashed - but it may already be too late.

( And yes, we're 0-for-2 in the kids' schools football program department... )

Heh, grats, man, on the 2-for-2 valid Victorians, that's awesome!

Maybe an Engineering school won't be so deep in the identity stuff....

Those idiots could have gotten Saquan Barkley with the 1st overall pick and Mayfield would have still been there for the 4th pick.

Should have gone Chubb then any QB not named Mayfield at 4 IMO.

Barkley is awesome but RBs have such a short shelf life in the NFL I couldn't see going number 1 with him.

Almost all of that stuff in the letter are things that would have been identified in the vetting/interview process. It's BS.

Either that or (2) they did a p!ss-poor job in the vetting/interviewing process that led to her appointment as Chancellor. or (3) they wanted a woman as Chancellor, qualifications be d*mned.

She was a lightweight from that great feeder school Cinncinnati. If I never hear that school's name again it will be to soon.

I've learned more than I probably ever wanted to know about them. Any questions that I'm capable of helping with, let me know.

Btw, I knew you were being facetious, you're Behr. :),

Haslam told Bev to hire Currie. She did. Then the debacle and she fires him and hires Phil.

Why didn't she just hire Phil in the first place?

When she fired Currie and hired Phil, I assume she had support. Where is that support now?

Edit: I'm not trying to argue here or pretend I know more than anyone, I'm just trying to understand.

This blows. I personally loved her as our Chancellor!

I didn't initially like Davenport as Chancellor, that took a nosedive when she picked Currie as AD, but I thought she redeemed herself when she replaced Currie with Fulmer. At that point she seemed to realize the initial blunder, corrected it, and was taking advice from Fulmer. Beyond that, I certainly don't know how well she handles things, but the bar set by at least her immediate incumbent was pretty low.

You don't issue that sort of scathing termination letter unless it's well deserved.

A few conspiracy people will lay this at the feet of the Haslams (I'm hardly a defender) but there's NOTHING political about the DiPietro letter and the timing of this.

She seemed over head after the announcement of her hire and it appears now her major qualification was having two X chromosomes. I'm not against hiring a woman as a chancellor, but that woman should never have made it past the headhunter stage.

I really don't think she did anything well. Public relations, legislative relations, athletic management, facilities management, cost cutting, etc.

There is a small group of protesters today demonstrating against the firings, but it appears to be the same sort of 'usual suspects" that protested the outsourcing, sex weeks, Pride Center issues. In other words, it appears she only appealed to the malcontents.

Yes, it may very well have come down to the chromosomes. First woman Chancellor.

OK. But I guess what Im trying to find out is if this protest is because the kids love Bev or if they are angry at being screwed with. Or both.

Since when did a 21st protest inthe USA have tohave seen actual meaning? It's just for people with any number of anger issues torun intothe street together. The news media can have a video,.op and tellthe viewers and readers whatever narrative they decide.

She had no reason to believe that she wasn't doing what she was "supposed to do".
She knew nothing of our politics or how directly related that family is to our downfall. Heck, many from Tennessee didn't see what was about to happen. She followed her lead. Then had to choose a side when everything fell apart.

Much of her support has been removed also, via the focus act.

Seems she was in over her head.

As would have been anybody hand appointed by Haslam. She just made the mistake of sticking hers up. Anybody else would have complied with the marching orders to hire Reid Siggmon.

I dropped in today to confirm to myself why I dropped out. Sure enough UT is an ever expanding three alarm fire.

Breaks my heart....and I don't even like Davenport. It's like we manufacture bad reasons to stay in the media.

Say you just dropped in, to see what condition our condition was in?

Three alarm dumpster fire... again!

Whether she was effective or not in her job, it sounds like DiPietro is a very petty micromanager. I personally would disagree with her liberal stances pointed out in the article, but that sounds like DiPietro didn't do his vetting properly. Also if he thought she wasn't capable and needed a coach, then why in the hell was she hired in the first place.

We need another Andy Holt.

Yes. Wouldn’t expect you to agree since you don’t acknowledge recruiting. :)

Dont acknowledge recruiting or just dont follow it?

Funny how its assumed that a guy that hasnt coached a game is better than two proven coach. So yeah, it would be safe to assume that i dont agree with what is more tham likely an incorrect statement.

Look at it this way, had we hired frost or kelly would you be upset that we didnt hire Pruitt? The answer is no and anyone who says yes is lying to themselves.

Oh and as far as recruiting goes, didnt we lose some to Nebraska?

It absolutely does.

When she was forced to fire Currie after that debacle, after the fan backlash, she had no choice but to turn to Phil.....there were already people beginning to look at her/ask questions about her role in the fiasco....she couldn’t afford to do anything else but turn to Fulmer, which immediately calmed and pleased the fanbase and the heat was off her from that angle, at that time.

Question now is, did she ultimately wind up getting Haslam’d in the end, did they get their revenge here 5 months later? Is her firing today connected? We don’t know.

But at the time, last December? Oh hell yes, she did a quick 180 by turning to Phil, something she didn’t even consider, even refused to do by announcing her “sitting power 5 AD” criteria 9-10 months earlier....but she knew she had to drop the pretense of that criteria and hire Phil to save her ass, there’s zero doubt about that.
