The problem with Hymans is that he's just a newspaper reporter with a job that requires having an intelligent opinion and being able to have a discussion. His expertise is reporting sports news not in discussing sports news.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I listened to his first hour of Tennis Talk because I figured that as much as he talks about tennis he should be able to hold my interest. WRONG! What an idiot I am for thinking that.

You're right but he's still making the attempt to discuss that news and it sounds fake. It's as if he's looking at stats or some blog and baseing his answers off that. He guesses. That is not sportstalk. Kind of like the morning crew. Doc doesn't watch sports, but he's quick to voice his opinion based off nothing. (watch the game before you have an opinion). Not him.

I really enjoy listening to hooker. Not the most insightful guy but the most entertaining by far. Sports are all about entertainment, after all.

Wrestling is entertainment. Sports is athletics that can be entertaining or fulfills a need. Hookers' an idiot with useless opinions.Who finds that entertaining?

With that, Pirkle and Brantley saw the opportunity to seize nearly all of the current WNOX audience by keeping talk on that frequency and acquiring much of the syndicated programming.

Except there's a gap between the two, and from what I've seen, most of the programming migrated to 98.7.

It's not like most listeners have been/will be tuning into the same frequency, unaware that a change has occurred.

The problem with Hyams is he's not honest. He's says he doesn't have a fave college team but he loves the Saints. Yet he reported on LSU. Just come out and say it. He figures it gives him credibility when he says he's not a Vol fan. Who cares he knows nothing about sports. You ask him a deep question he either refers to John or adlibs. What a joke.

I don't care if he likes LSU or not. The bottom line is that he's not entertaining.

Brantley was let go by Citadel as the eliminated the General Manager position in all but five of their markets.

The contract for the lease of the 100.3 frequency was canceled as a part of the Citadel bankruptcy. Part of that contract had been that, if the Citadel-Pirlke contract ended, then the call letters would revert back to WOKI on 100.3 before the transfer. Pirkle and Brantley had planned to operate a country station with the WOKI call letters to compete with WIVK. However, with the cancelation of the contract, the call letters remained WNOX, and there was not a contractual obligation to return those to Citadel.

With that, Pirkle and Brantley saw the opportunity to seize nearly all of the current WNOX audience by keeping talk on that frequency and acquiring much of the syndicated programming. Limbaugh, along with Hallerin Hill and Phil Williams remain with Citadel and are now on 98.7, which will now move forward with the call letters WOKI.

Currently, the only sports programming that will air on the new WNOX 100.3 will be the Hooker and Fair show from 3-6 every afternoon. The rest of the day and weekends will be filled with news and talk programming.

There is some talk that they may try to do some high school football this fall. Next year, look for them to add a major sports property like the Westwood One NFL package, NASCAR, or the Atlanta Braves.

The Vol Network contract was not canceled in the Citadel Bankruptcy, and that programming will continue to be produced at the Citadel studios and air on Citadel's 107.7 and 99.1/990.

That mess doesn't make much sense to me. Citadel might as well shut down as move to the 6000 watter. What are they serving? Clinton? Ought to be plenty of revenue in that.

I'm of the opinion that IF they bring 100.3 to a sports talk format it ends after football season and turns into something else. The fact is for ratings in Knoxville sports talk is going to have to be about football. That's July through Jan 1st. After that, then what? Basketball????

100.3 has way too valuable of a signal for that. I'm thinking Jan 1st it goes country head to head against the cash cow (WIVK). Andy and Allison could be whipped like puppies. It's not like the first time WOKI went country and they were competing against much stronger local talent. WIVK turned into commercial bs with Citadel and they are beatable now. Like I said earlier, a good morning crew that thumped the UT drum daily like Willy and Wal Mart or Claude Tomlinson did would change things drastically. Maybe Phil Williams for drive home.

Democrat talk radio (Colmes) in Knoxville won't work add into it 3 hours of football talk in March and that's a recipe for failure.

So...I was right originally. I'm glad to be out of the game and able to watch from a distance. This will be entertaining.

He doesn't know how to play politics and doesn't seem to want to learn. I wish that he was on opposite of Moron Talk, he would drive them out of business.

Tony has actually tried on two different stations....and lost both times. I believe it was 95.7 about 9 or 10 years ago and then went to 850. (It was always funny to hear him bash Buzz and someone saying if anyone ought to feel sympathy for him it was Tony.)He finally wound up at 1180. I know his original deal was he bought the airtime from the station.

He's got a nice time-slot and niche and doing very well. I don't see him changing anything anytime soon.

How was the new afternoon show? I got out of the office late and didn't get to listen to any of it.

i think the hooker/terry fair chemistry will be awkward even after they get used to each other... prolly too many giggles for terry ...

russell w. smith (from 850) is doing the news ... he would be better in hooker's chair, imo ....

Hooker did worse than I thought. That constant fake laugh that he learned from the other guys makes me wanna punch him the face. Terry Fair is what you'd expect, a player with a player's perspective. It's obvious he doesn't have much, if any, training but he will be an asset during fall practice being a former player.

I wish I owned a station, it seems ridiculously easy to put something better on in the afternoon than what we currently have.

Who is Russell W. Smith? What is his deal?

He used to have a show on 850 AM from 1-3 that was not bad. He seemed cogent and genuine. And then...it disappeared. What's up?

Terry has been far better than I thought he would be doing radio and tv. With the right co-host, he would make a popular personality in my opinion.

(He also has a lot of inside baseball-type knowledge from his years in the league.)

Super nice guy, also.

From what I've heard so far listening some yesterday and some today, it belongs on a small AM station not a Class C FM with the kind of signal they have.

It has to get a lot better.

he lost his 850 show when they changed formats ... I think he stayed on at horne doing stuff for west 105 or whatever station it is ....

he's knowledgeable and doesn't take himself seriously like hooker ... as bad as the snooze is w/ hymens, I don't see hooker cutting into their numbers .... maybe they'll wipe each other out and give us some entertainment in the afternoon..............

They will have to take advantage of the "down time" of John and Jimmy's show, like when they spend an entire hour on Monday's talking about NASCAR, or tennis, or golf, or any number of inane things that people don't care enough about to listen to on radio. (I don't care and I actually like NASCAR, golf and tennis.)

Hooker needs to use any and every contact he has early on, and then lock them in for weekley appearances. (Tuesday's with Spencer Hall, Wednesday's with Charles Davis, or something like that). And Terry knows more people than he lets on. He needs to play that out.
