Dave Hart's contract coming to a close

If our players do not like the job Hart , Cheek or both are doing, all they have to do is go on strike.

So it's been 3 months since this came about and still no extension hmmm

He got an extension through 2018 in April 2013. Not sure what Hubbs was babbling about to get the natives here in an uproar.

Hart's salary will remain $592,250, though he also earns $150,000 annually for media appearances. Hart's contract now runs through Sept. 18, 2018. His deal also provides for an additional year with a $50,000 retention bonus

Why has Hart done a good job?

Because he isn't as incompetent as Hambone?

Hart needs to be gone in 10-months. He has barely tread water. We should be lining up a solid AD hire if we had any sense.

And throw in new UT President while we're at it.

Hasn't everybody heard? We should always be firing our current AD/Coaches and rehiring. The grass always is greener. It is the EVH/Negavol way.

It's my understanding that Hart has gotten rid of a lot of waste in athletics. As far as the Butch hire it was supposed to be a good one. Butch's stupid in game decisions are the problem not Hart. As far as the basketball hire we'll just have to wait and see.

Hart should have been aware that Butch does not believe in mid-game adjustments to the gameplan as his game management style was well known and disliked at UC.

Are you two yahoos really trying to imply that Butch was a bad hire? SMDH!!!

I think it's time to replace Hart AND Cheek with somebody with TN connections. They don't have to be graduates or natives but some connection. For instance (and this is NOT a suggestion just an example), Spurrier. Blackburn is an outstanding example. There are many others that could fill either chair. The key is not to wait 10 months. Find a replacement now and prepare for the transition at the end of the contract(s).

Considering that Hart had to deal with Cheek, I think he has done very well. The football program is back in the play for SEC championship consideration, the indoor track team is rated 2nd in the powerful SEC, the baseball team should be in the upper half of the SEC. the soccer team seems to be improving, the swimming teams are improving, both outdoor track teams are improving, etc. He hired a solid basketball coach to try to rebuild the men's basketball program. He has the Athletic Programs making big profits again.

His next big test will be how he handle what seems to be a declining women's basketball program. He has been able to revers decisions which Cheek had placed on the Athletic program in the past. Overall, he has done a fan static job and deserves a rise and an extension for 4-5 years. For the first time in a number of years, I look froward to watching Tennessee sports in the future.

Seriously what does Blackburn have to do to get this job? All three major sports that UTC competes in, they are conference champions in. 4 years ago that was unheard of. The UTCAD is experiencing an unprecedented amount of prosperity, due to one of our own, while our AD has turned into a fetid, stinking shell of itself.

Hart is to be commended for eliminating the womens AD. I don't remember who created that fiasco but they panicked when Title1X came into being. Hart slayed the dragon. Give him 3.

Phillip Fulmer would be the Ideal athletic director. There is no other person who could do a better job than Fulmer, whose football teams won more games than any UT coach in history, except for General Robert Neyland.

I'm not sure why anyone can have a problem with Dave hart as AD. Butch was a great hire, Rick Barnes will prove to be a good hire with time. Barnes took Texas to (17?) ncaa tourneys. Also, Dave Serrano made several appearances in the college World Series when at cal state Fullerton, and turned them into a nationally recognized baseball school. He has also coached U.S. National teams, he just hasn't quite turned the corner at UT yet. One could also argue he was in a bigger hole with the baseball team than butch was with the football team when each was hired. Just not sure where all the hate for hart is coming from, can someone fill me in on what I'm missing??

Mike Hamilton left hart a mess to come in and fix and he has done an excellent job so far. Hart didn't hire kiffin or Dooley, he isn't the reason Bruce got put on a 2 year show cause, so what gives? What has he done so terrible everyone wants him out?

No strong personal opinion on the job this guy has done at UTC. However, it is important to note that the SOCON is a shell of its former self in Football (lost App State, GA Southern) and B-Ball (lost Davidson, CofC, Elon). Just thought that was worth mentioning when you throw about conference titles as proof of a great job.

I don't see any way Cheek or Hart survive this. I'm not even sure they make it till June.

No way Fulmer is brought in, though. He's named in the lawsuit and alleged to have made inappropriate comments to Jamie Naughright, as well as complicit in a Peyton Manning coverup. Whether or not any of it's true is irrelevant; UT can't take the risk.

Whose "UT" football teams won more "UT" games than any UT "head" coach in history, except for CRN.

If UT has to hire a new AD I think Blackburn would be a slam dunk. The only thing that kept him from getting the job last time was lack of experience. His whole adult life revolved around UT, he fortunately got his feet wet at baby brother.

Agree on Fulmer, after all he lobbied like hell for Hamilton to get the AD job...

I say keep him for now. Better the devil you know than stepping down to one that's worse. IMHO he's done a pretty decent job. Compared to Hamilton it's like night and day.

Not entirely sure what Hubbs is hinting at here? The fact that he likely won't get 5 more years or he won't get a renewal at all?

Hubbs is not really sure either. He does however like when you put money into his bank account by paying for a VQ membership.

Why do you think they will be fired? What have they done wrong? I haven't heard.
