Dave Hart: Shoop paying own buyout is a "very very loud statement"

If boosters give the money to UT to give to Shoop in salary then it's public record. If boosters pay him directly as a "consultant" then the arrangement stays off of and out of message boards, Twitter, newspapers, and magazines. He keeps his business private as do the boosters and UT isn't scrutinized either. Plus, if he's actually making $2,000,000/year then the rest of the coaching staff that is only making $150,000 or $200,000 a year isn't as upset when they think he's "only" making $1.15 million per year. Remember, Bruce Pearl was fired by UT and landed on HT Hackney's payroll rather quickly. The only thing lost is that the boosters footing the bill aren't credited on the season ticket priority list... which probably doesn't matter to the donors at that level anyway.

I thought his reply to being asked about the buyout was odd. This makes sense. Boosters foot the buyout and get a great coach, while UT stays within budget. Win.

Why? Lady Vols are 11-4, ranked #13. She's 97-24.....Where's she going?

Well ya see....there is this certain group over in the "Lady Vols" forum who hate Holly......and Dave Hart and feel that if they come onto VN and whine enough that they will both be fired. They don't really need a valid reason though......because.....hate.

:good!:

Jobs are not always about salary! If you love your work and make a decent amount of money, that goes a long way towards making you and your family happy. Although it helps, money does not always buy happiness.

I can't like this enough. The people you work with are an important factor, too.

I suppose she's going nowhere. Same as the program.

She's the female Ron Zook.

She's managed to take a perennial power and turn them into a middling top 25 program and out of the championship hunt.

If anyone actually cared about female basketball she'd be out of a job and Tennessee would be in the market for an actual good basketball coach.

Aren't they coming off a 30-6 season, an SEC title and Elite 8 appearance? And a #4 final ranking?

not when you consider Shoop could leave UT after next season and not owe us anything, per his contract

It is what it is honestly. But "could" leave isn't quite as bad as "abandon ship!" which appears to be happening to the PSU program.

So long as he doesn't get the full three years of salary up front, we aren't losing anything save having to search for another DC. Could leave is relative.

She was handed a dynasty.

4 of the 6 years before she took over LV's won 30+ games.

From 1997- 2012 LV's had 2 seasons under 30 wins. (Warrick has 2 in 3 years)

Elite 8 for Lady Vols is like 8-4 for the grid iron gang.

Only your facts are overrated.

I thought it was an odd question to ask honestly. You could tell it caught him off guard a little. Personally I wish he would've said "none of your damn business." Truthfully, it wasn't information the public needed to know anyway.

Yes, it seems we still have a few journalists still showing up at press conferences that ought to work for the sports section of a tabloid. Wouldn't hurt my feelings if Butch trims the list again this year.

UT and PSU are both public, state universities. Just why the Hell shouldn't state tax payers know such things?

Sure. CBJ has to be the most fortuitous coach in UT history, whether it's the legacy class or finding a top DC who is suddenly desperate to get the hell out of Dodge.

She's following Pat Summit, one of if not the greatest women's basketball coach of all time. Bar was awfully high. Doubt Geno's successor is gonna match his performance either.

And I wouldn't say Holly was exactly handed a "dynasty". She was handed the keys to an historic program, but Pat didn't leave her a team on a "3 consecutive national titles run" or something. She'd lost 26 games her last 4 years, with 2 elite 8s, a sweet 16 and a first round bow-out. That's pretty damn good, but she didn't end any of those seasons holding a trophy and getting showered with confetti. Her last title was 5 years prior to her retirement...Holly is only in her 4th year and who knows, maybe she wins a title next year.

I'm not saying Holly is an all-time great cosch or that I even much care for her....I really don't, especially after the way she publicly went after fans during the whole Cuonzo Martin fiasco. Just saying that she's not an example of failure that some want or should use to get to Hart.

PSU is more of a dumpster fire that people know at the moment....I live in PA and it is basically going to unravel after this coming year.

And I'm gonna giggle my arse off when Snakehead gets run out of town after three bad years.

I think he is looking for a springboard. Barn and LSU have some instability and that put them out of the running. We, one the other hand, are on the upswing in the weaker division of the SEC. His family being in state makes the job more enticing. Tennessee is a pretty attractive job at the moment for a variety of reasons. A top 5 defense probably sends us to Atlanta next year.

Are we assuming he wants another HC job or is there something more concrete about his dream job? I know little about him, really.

People also need to understand how much Women's basketball has grown over the past few years. I think it's become more popular and the amount of good teams has grown.

Hart talks like he's always trying to convince the fans. Shoops buyout a statement? Sure. A "very very loud statement"? Please

It's called selling a product. It may not resonate with you, but I can guarantee you that headline sold just a few more vol fans on buying tickets this year. And some gear from the bookstore.

Are you a little surprised that we didn't try to get their WR Coach to come with Shoop?

Here's some things I see have been left out that we need to consider too.

1...No state income tax in Tennessee is a HUGE selling point and actually adds to the income staying on the paycheck.

2...With the Degree that Shoop has from Yale you can bet that he has zero financial worries at this point in his life/career.

3...Shoop is in a great position now and for the next 3 years and you can bet that as long as buTch keeps getting WINS that Shoop will also be able to sit in comfort on the Hill as long as his D is doing well consistently.

4...Adding to that comfort level is a talent rich player roster now and good to great recruiters on our coaching staff and good coaches that he knows for a fact will be replaced if buTch sees that he can upgrade with a better coach and recruiter.

5...No need at all for Shoop to leave Tennessee since he's in such a great, comfortable position on the hill now so he can take as long as he wants to pick and choose exactly where is the perfect fit for him and his family to move to for more $$$ and the perfect opportunity for a HC position.

Kirby Smart could have taken a HC position many times but he chose to stay at alaBubba with nick saTan until exactly what he wanted came along and Shoop can now do exactly the same thing so we just might have him as our DC longer than anyone can guess and speculate on.

6...Shoop knows for a fact all the extra time, pressure and serious work that comes with a HC job and he may not even want all those extra headaches and hassles and more time away from his family unless a opportunity comes along that he just can't refuse so that could be another reason he may stay longer on the Hill.

Shoop is a great, comfortable position now for many reasons and he just might have lots of fun working for buTch, getting lots of WINS, maybe some SEC and National Championships to add to his resume' and he and is family may just fal in love with ennessee and Vol Nation and want to stay on the Hill for a long time since he has no financial worries.

He may leave after next season or he may stay with our footVol family for 10 years or longer and nobody knows for certain so stop worrying and enjoy the ride as we #RiseToTheTop #BrickbyBrick !

Climbing back to the Top on Rocky Top...VFL...GBO!!!
