Vols AD: Shoop paying own buyout a 'statement'

Granted, I am pretty sure that Shoop wont pay a nickle of that buyout himself (boosters will magically pick up the tab) but I love how Hart spins this.

SIPA but I cant imagine Hart giving Franklin a bigger :finger3: than that... or am I reading to much into the normal (he's so happy to be here) pablum?

When quizzed about the buyout, didn't Shoop mumble something about he was going to deal with PS regarding the buyout, does Shoop have film on_________

I thought it was an odd question to ask honestly. You could tell it caught him off guard a little. Personally I wish he would've said "none of your damn business." Truthfully, it wasn't information the public needed to know anyway.

it is loud statement. says a lot about what's going on at psu with ol franken-weenie. a lot of loud statements made throughout this hire. the fact that he also turned down auburn offering more money is pretty big statement too.

Hart talks like he's always trying to convince the fans. Shoops buyout a statement? Sure. A "very very loud statement"? Please

Some serious spin from Hart on that one. With his family already in Tennessee this was the ideal situation for him. But there is no way Shoop is paying the buyout on his own. Got to love big money doners. Still if someone wants to start a gofundme I got a couple bucks on his buyout.

How many times have you ever heard of a coach paying their own buyout? Or at least attempting to do so?

Yeah, that's a pretty big deal.

I wrote out the direct quote from the presser on another thread, but IIRC it was "I'm going to handle that with Peen State, and that's all I'm going to say about it."

Yeah but he will leave after a year without having to pay UT anything and get a HC job. He's getting a good deal too.

I think it says more about what CBS believes Butch has going on here than what is going on at PSU. If it was the latter he could have taken the Auburn job for more money than UT will pony up. To me, that is telling.

I think he is looking for a springboard. Barn and LSU have some instability and that put them out of the running. We, one the other hand, are on the upswing in the weaker division of the SEC. His family being in state makes the job more enticing. Tennessee is a pretty attractive job at the moment for a variety of reasons. A top 5 defense probably sends us to Atlanta next year.

It certainly says a lot. At $3.45mm over 3 years, he is getting $450k over his PSU contract against an $800k buyout. IF he does pay his own buyout, he is taking a net-pay cut to leave PSU for UT! Then compared to the $4.5mm he would have gotten from Auburn over those same 3 years - very interesting.

I agree, and I think he feels UT offers the best opportunity because of what Butch is doing here.

Jobs are not always about salary! If you love your work and make a decent amount of money, that goes a long way towards making you and your family happy. Although it helps, money does not always buy happiness.

Butch, Shoop, Hart & Jancek all handled this very professionally. And those people who say Jancek was "salty" about being fired are seriously misconstruing the situation. Jancek seems proud of his accomplishments at Tennessee and I think in the end he left a better coach than when he arrived. Meanwhile, Shoop has shown nothing but class. PSU fans may disagree, of course, but the way I see it is the man very clearly saw a better situation in front of him and made a decision that reflected what he holds more important than money; quality of life, for himself and his family.

Welcome aboard Coach Shoop! Time to take this thing to the next level.

Tennessee is BACK!!!

Shoop has an economic degree from Yale, so I figure the buyout isn't that big a deal for him financially.

He dodged the question about him paying the buy out by saying he's negotiating with Penn State. I read that to say that he's going to try and get it reduced, but if he doesn't someone else is paying it anyway.
