Dave Hart comments on Dooley

Oh for pete's sake, why? Is this getting printed? Are you an English teacher? More importantly are you MY English teacher? It was a hypothetical remark and if anyone reads the whole post they would understand that.

When you see quotation remarks you assume it is a quote- not an ignorant remark- that is why!

I think this is a bit of overthinking here. I believe he simply meant that CDD is the right man for the job and he became the coach right when the team needed someone like him the most.

For me, the jury is still out on CDD. I just haven't seen any proof that he can handle this job at this level. He's a good man, and I suppose he knows football. He's done good at recruiting, but not great, he's beaten teams he's supposed to, and hasn't been upset by any lower rated teams. Everyone says give him time and I agree with that. If though, he's still at this point by 2013 or '14, then I'll be ready for a change. I'm not by any means lobying for a change at this early of a date. He does deserve a fair chance.

I hope he isnt trying to infer that Dooley is UT's version of Mike Shula

I don't think Dave Hart thinks like UT fans, and Volnation think. He thinks Dooley is the guy to turn the program around. The program needs discipline and consistency. Dooley is providing that, along with hope for the future.

This is how Hart probably feels. He'll give Dooley time and a fair chance at getting us back to being Tennessee, if Dooley doesn't get it done then I don't think Hart will hesitate to make a change.

What has he done to show you he isn't capable of winning at this level?

One can also ask, what has he done to show he can win at this level? I like Dooley and I think he might be able to get it done at this level, but nobody can be a 100% sure he will. When Bama hired Saban and when UF hired Meyer, they had good reason to think those guys will get the job done.

Who knows Hart might get Saban to screw Bama and become the new coach for the Vols in 2013!

Maybe I'm reading too much into it but by Heart saying Dooley is the "right guy at the right time," could this be an insenuation that he may not be the right guy long term? I don't know but I almost take it as if he's saying "Dooley is what this program currently needs but for long term success we may have to explore other options."

You are.

They guy I quoted did ask that. Nice try though.

"The right guy, at the right time"? Sounds a little weird to me. Like Dooley is ok for the situation but not the ideal coach at any time.

I still don't think Dooley gets the credit he deserves. So far Dooley has done an excellent job with what he has had to work with. He kept this program together in it's toughest spot that it has ever been in. He has brought in two classes that have feeled needs and added playmakers as well. This is going to be a long process to get UT back to the level we want it to be at. I think we'll turn some heads this year and compete for a spot in Atlanta next season.

Looking back at Dooley's time here, it amazes me the bad luck he has had. His recruiting has went well but the on field luck has been awful. Hopefully that changes. I'm so sick of it! We could have beaten LSU and UNC last year. LSU was bad luck and a mistake in the substitution call, I Know. But we were so close. We were so close to being 8-5 in his first year with a pitiful looking roster. Now this year we lose Hunter on the first offensive drive of the Florida game. It was like going through a title fight with one arm tied behind your back.

Dooley is a great coach in my opinion. The character he has shown so far is hard to find these days. We were lucky to get him. He's doing it the right way and teaching these kids to play the right way as well. Just think, we were close to hiring Muschamp. He almost came here. We would be stuck with a ranting coach that teaches his team dirty tricks to get an advantage. Florida db's were interfering all day on Saturday. And the punt block was cheap too. The lineman pulled the blocker and Rainey ran through. I just don't like the chicken s### style of playing. Let's back this guy up and support him. Go Vols!

He's 8-8. He has not done a "great" job.

So if Saban called up Hart and said guess what, I want to quit Bama and come coach UT, you wouldn't take him?

I would donate towards his salary.

No.

IMO he would fit in at Tennessee about as good as the kifster did.

Heading to the homestead....later.

Doesnt mean dick unless he produces wins this year and next. I like Dooley, but thats the reality of the situation.

You must be one of those who wanted to hire a "big name" like Rich Rodriguez, Jim Tressel, Butch Davis, on and on. I was skeptical at first with his hiring, but I agree with Hart.

Whether or not he is here long term depends on DD's performance and not wishful thinking that he should go. I believe he is on the right track and the last thing we need is another coaching change.

No the guy you quoted didn't ask he stated that he hasn't seen anything from Dooley that says he can succeed at this level. He is right Dooley hasn't shown us anything that tells us he will be successful at this level. You are right also he hasn't shown us he can't succeed at this level either. We could wait 5 years and he still might not have shown us that he can't succeed at this level. Basically, Dooley has a time frame to get us back and if he doesn't he'll be gone, I think most will agree with that. Dooley has to hit 10 wins in 2013.

If Dooley doesn't win at least 7 this year and at least 9 next year we need to make a change. I think Hart would spend the money to get the right coach. I think Dooley is good but hasn't proven anything yet. If he doesn't improve recruiting and in the win column than bye bye.
