Dave Doeren DC no confirmation yet

He landed several 4 star guys on O over the years. He did not just recruit D. OSU plays in a talent rich state that is more southern and closer to other talent. OSU is also a traditional powerhouse. It is like saying Arkansas should out recruit UF. If they are competitive it is a win.

They don't have to out recruit osu to get speed. The guys that sign with osu aren't the only guys with speed out there. No, I don't expect them to have a higher ranked class, but you can't tell me there are the only guys with more speed they could get. I don't expect ark to have a better ranked class , but if they know they can't compete without equivalent speed, I expect that they would go take some chances and find it. There are three stars etc that can run. Just saying they can't get them isn't absolution for not doing so, in a sense it's saying they might as well give up. That's a little extreme, but speed is a prerequisite to be a winning program against teams with it.

This isn't exactly the big surprise I was thinking unless the surprise was that noone would recogniZe the name.

I'm pretty sure WIsconsin had a top 5 rushing D this year and if you want to win games in the SEC you need to stop the run FIRST. We can't get Muschamp, Smart or Bumpus so DD is going after the next guy on the list. Yeh, I can see why that would be a bad thing. I can also see where having good sack attack would be a bad thing as well. The only new info I have is DD and DD jr spoke on the 24th while both were in FL, after he had spoken with Joe Barry.

This may have been mentioned, but Wes Rucker mentioned the other day that the DC will be a name that we have been hearing a lot of. This is the first we have heard of this guy. Who is really reporting this??

Some dude who claims to know some dude says that CDD spoke with him a week ago face to face. About as solid as it gets but fun to talk about.

I can only agree with you and add "to say the Big10 has no speed just shows how slow witted some of us are."

Agree. The only place where there is a regular difference btwn SEC and Big 10 speed is at DE and sometimes LB. All the other positions are pretty similar.

This is not accurate. DB for all teams not OSU, Michigan and Penn St. is sad at best. They may have a guy or two with speed but that will be it. We have about 4 4.4 DBs now and one coming. Wisconsin has 1.

Only post on here is saw said osu was the only exception to the big slow galumping big ten teams. I agree. But we see what those osu teams have looked like against the top of the sec. Sssssllllllllooooooowwwwww. Bowl loss. Bowl loss .......

I talked to my mother's best friend's husband's sister-in-law's date for the prom from 25 years ago and he said this isnt our guy.

I am probably the only person in here who happens to be a fan of both Wisconsin and Tennessee since I am from Wisconsin, but went to school at UT. That being said most of you do not know much about Doeren, but I watch every Wisconsin game and could tell you that if Wisconsin lost him it would be a huge loss. He is a hell of a recruiter, in case you missed it last year on National Signing when he got that 4 star receiver Kraig Appleton to switch his commitment from Illinois to Wisconsin. That was huge and probably the first time you ever heard Wisconsin make any news on NSD. Also if you look at Wisconsin's two deep roster you'll find it stockpiled with young talent which he played a key role in bringing in. Aside from his rercruiting prowess, he is also a good d-coordinator. Wisconsin had the best run defense in school history this past year, in which we did not allow a single player or team to rush for more than 100 yards this season. He's young and he would be good for UT, I just wish he would not leave Wisconsin. I think he's a great coach.

I think he would be a solid hire. I did some research lastnight and he is def a solid D-Coord and from what I read he's also very good at recruiting as well. He actually held the R-Coord title for a few yrs at Wisconsin. He was the Co D-Coord in the Outback Bowl when we played them, the same team that we scored like 21 pts on in the first half but scored only a TD in the second half b/c of their defense adjustments

Their base defense was a 4-3. Now for those out there with the comment about Wisconsin's speed obviously did not watch the Champs Sports Bowl. Wisconsin had 5 sacks on Jacory Harris, which 4 of those came while only rushing 4. To say the bigten is slow is ignorant. In the last 29 game of the Bigten vs. Sec the SEC holds a 15-14 edge. Hardly dominating.

Question is... Was he the DC the last time Wisconsin met UT in a bowl game?? If I remember correctly, they got stomped??

stomped? we picked off a pass in the endzone on the last play, and we didnt score in the 2nd half. doesnt sound like getting stomped to me.

Wilcox and this guy are both young and likely to stay and try to build a great reputation until they get offered an HC position. That will be nice to have.

As an RC, and potentially on our staff in the near future, let's hope that's not his claim to fame.

No actually it turns out that was not his claim to fame. But in case you did not notice the BigTen freshman of the year did not come out of Ohio State's class, or Michigan's supposedly much higher rated classes. The BigTen Freshman of the year was Chris Borland for Wisconsin who was recruited by Doeren. The BigTen offensive player of the year was John Clay of who also was only a sophmore and which Doeren played a key role in landing.
