This is probably the guy.

We've never been led astray on any previous coaching announcements.

This.

I just wonder how we're going to fit all the staff together. I mean Dooley, Will Muschamp, David Cutcliffe, Kyle Whittingham, Troy Calhoun, Lovie Smith, Kevin Steele, Dick Bumpas is going to make for a lot of ego bumper cars down at the Athletic Facility.

I'm waiting for someone to say the good lord revealed to them in their prayers who the next DC is going to be, he's the only source that hasn't been spoken of yet I do believe lol.

The other two hires today were impressive. This one not, if it is true.

Why? The Wisconsin D is a consistent example of doing more with less.

In their Bowl, they held Miami to 14 pts and 249 total yards. Their D doesn't come close to matching up athletically with Miami's O.

You are waiting for Urban Meyer to chime in? :)

EW supposedly highly recommended this guy a week or so ago, when they had their talks. I have some very good friends that push paper around at UNC. That's all I know. I was one of the first to let you know about EW having meetings with Dooley...it's not up to me for a coach to decide to accept a contract or not...I'll I'm saying is that Daves name has come up in the last few days I doubled checked with my sources And they confirmed the intro between EW and DD. honestly for all I known DD could be trying to help his old boss out in LA, filliing the HC position. Dorean seems like an up and comer. I don't follow the Big10 so I couldn't say anything worthwile about him. From my point of view DD is going to be in charge of the D so with the help of CS and the 2 DD And LT I think our boys will have some great minds on D. I think DD also wanted some recruiting help in some of these northern states, since we seem to be covered very very well with our current guys in the dough and Texas. The addition of HH will also help a bit up north.

Yeah, Wisconsin's overall record has been good, or atleast good enough.
But looking at the defensive statistics, which haven't changed much over the past three seasons, the Badgers have given up around 300 ypg and 22 ppg.
I don't know how anyone else feels, but I feel like it's kind of pedestrian.

Of course our defensive manhandlings over UGA last season and Miss St. in 2008 may skew my point of view.

I don't like this hire if it's true.

If this is the DC then who replces him for spring practice ? he wont be thawed out until late Aug from being in Wisconsin.
I say its either Steele or somebody thats coaching in the super bowl.
How come nobody has tried to hire Bob Kesling away from Tn?

Eeeeecccckkk!!! Please tell me you are kidding? I'm on CCDs side, but this would stretch even my faith in him

Question is... Was he the DC the last time Wisconsin met UT in a bowl game?? If I remember correctly, they got stomped??

IIRC, they were one batted pass in the end zone from winning the game(Brett Vinson?). Stomped, they were not.

everyone needs to withhold judgement untill everything is settled. if it is him it is a solid hire. i mean everyone acts like we should be hireing the megastars. monte was a mega star and his def didint do so hot last year. he is a smart guy and he is going to get the right people. they know more about x's and o's than we do...chill

Yeah...he'll have to face SEC speed on offense...but he'll also have SEC athletes on his side. I just want a guy who will be innovative. I do NOT want someone predictable like Chavis.

That being said...I don't know where this guy falls.

I totally agree... I remember watching the Ohio State - Wisconsin game this year and even though O State won pretty big, Wisconsin absolutely shut down Prior and the O State offense. O state has some pretty good speed (not quite SEC caliber though). I think they might have had 150 total yards and like 8 first downs the whole game.. Most of O state's points were on special teams and defense.

I don't know where you got your stats from BUT as posted on his bio....

Wisconsin led the nation in pass efficiency defense (84.19 rating) and finished second to Virginia Tech in passing yards allowed per game (138.3) and scoring defense (12.1 ppg). UW also was No. 5 nationally in total defense, allowing just 253.1 yards per contest - with him as co-DC/LB coach/RC

Kansas led the Big 12 Conference and ranked No. 3 nationally in rushing defense (83.3 ypg)...was also No. 2 in the Big 12 and 11th nationally in total defense (303.3 ypg) - with him as co-DC/LB coach/RC

...thats not too shabby

From ESPN:

The Big Ten is filled with elite defensive coordinators: We already knew that the Big Ten was a defense-oriented league, but we saw just how good these coaches can be in the bowls. Defensive coordinators like Dave Doeren (Wisconsin), Tom Bradley (Penn State), Norm Parker (Iowa) and Jim Heacock and Luke Fickell (Ohio State) crafted tremendous game plans to slow down offenses featuring supposedly better athletes and more speed......and totally shut down opposing quarterbacks like Miami's Jacory Harris......you can't beat the defensive coaching in the Big Ten.

seems like hes had some success in the Big 12 and Big 10...who's to say he wont excel in the SEC with SEC caliber talent

This guy has been Wisconsin's recruiting coordinator he brings his recruiting skills to the table. He has been a good not great DC. Thompson was not a great DC either. In the end, I would be ok with this hire but not overly excited. Recruiting is more then half of winning in big time college football. If Dooley hires this guy he clearly understands that.

Kelly is the only coach I know of who has had much success and sucks at recruiting. Dorean with Smith would make for an awesome recruiting staff on D. The question would be can they coach? Dorean has done enough to show he is a good coach but has not wowed me atleast. 17 overall last year and their offense was not very good. Many of the scores against the D were off turnovers. Ohio St. had two INTs basically returned for TDs and a punt return for a TD. That was 21 of their 31 points. Wisconsin cannot defend the pass well with out taking too many men out of the box but like most teams that are not in the SEC get few big time DB recruits. These guys are generally in warmer weather areas. It is hard to defend teams with good WRs and QBs when your DBs are the speed of our LBs, I exaggerate but not by much.

Looking at their recruiting...they had one guy as a DB who runs under a 4.5...that is one guy. We just had a LB commit who runs under a 4.5...McCoy and Mayo are as fast as their DBs. It is what it is. All about scheme in the Big Ten and coaching except for OSU and maybe Penn St.(recently doing well in recruiting).

I think he would be a great hire. I've been impressed with Wisconsin's defense for several years. I hope this rumor is true. A young upcoming coach with talent is better than an old NFL one in my book. Too many people on this site are obsessed with getting NFL coaches at UT. Why? Don't be stupid. Look at the big picture.
