Dave Bartoo: Tennessee now has playoff talent and 'national championship' DC

A snippet....

According to Bartoo, every other team in the East have significant disadvantages compared to the Vols this season and should cruise toward Atlanta. Of course assuming head coach Butch Jones doesn’t get in the way with a poor sideline decision or two.

The reason for Bartoo’s high confidence in Tennessee this year centers on the team’s addition of defensive coordinator Bob Shoop. According to Bartoo, Shoop registered as the second best defensive assistant in the nation last season and has proven to be an elite coordinator capable of taking the Vols all the way to the mountaintop this season.

“It Tennessee is going to win that division, it’s because of the defense,” Bartoo said. “[Landing Bob Shoop], that was an incredible hire, the second best defense efficiency coach guy in college football is now at Tennessee. If Tennessee wins that division, it’s because of that hire. That’s a national championship defensive coordinator.”

the Vols play nine games inside the state of Tennessee including the first four of the season and only face three SEC opponents on the road (Georgia, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt) — all factoring in its favor this season, it’s no wonder Bartoo is so high on the Vols.

Apparently he thinks USCe is a non SEC school and is also inside the state of Tennessee?

Defintely a goof up as he is correct about 3 games out of state, but should have left Vandy of the list... Or made a more clear understanding of what he meant.

Three games worry me:

Florida: everyone knows the back story here
At aTm: All the chatter and noise around the program it's set up perfectly for them to play spoiler to a potentially undefeated volunteer team.
Bama: with the high possibility of both being undefeated being the villan in Knoxville and send a reality check and train wreck the team.

I'm more concerned with Georgia, our first road game.

I have always thought that...but Smart may get credit for it

I'm sure he's a great coach and has one of the top minds in the game. That said Saban has his hand in on every aspect of bama football. Smart has the tools to field a good D but whether or not he can give proper adjustments and handle everything else that comes with being under the microscope remains to be seen.

That's completely understandable.
Unless Eason is the next freshman phenom I don't expect them to win. It'll be a good game but inexperience at the most important position will cost them.

Knight has weapons and is experienced.

I watched the replay of the A&M-Arky game yesterday to get a scouting report on the Aggies. It's clear that we have to shut down their talented receiving core and get pressure on Knight. Josh Reynolds is the real deal. However, their D is incredibly overrated, and Myles Garrett wasn't as impressive as I was anticipating. He's NFL caliber no doubt, but Barnett is substantially better IMO.

Just chip 'em.
And everything will be fine.

aTm's biggest problem on defense is a lack of defensive tackle talent and depth.

I heard on the radio the other day that Eason seems to be sliding down the depth chart.

Our Shoop Troops of the Big Orange Swarm have, finally, incredible talent, good but inexperienced talent as backups and good knowledge and experience with most of our starters and great leadership.

I expect our O to be some better with a better passing game as well so we should control the clock, move the ball and score.

I have to agree 100% that it will be our Dominant D that takes us to the next level and where we all want to be.

I still believe we'll play as vanilla as possible to keep getting WINS and stay as vanilla as long as we can so we don't put much of what we can really bring on film until we're forced to bring our more of our playbooks on both sides of the ball.

I'm really looking forward to seeing all the different packages and stunts that our Shoop Troops will bring as the season goes along.

My expectations for this season are as high as they've ever been in my 62 years on this Earth.

WIN by Win our Tennessee Vols will earn their respect and climb the rankings towards Championships...VFL...GBO!!!

The beginning of "It's all Shoop and Butch still sucks" BS. It will start with drips and drabs but it will come. I laugh at this crap.

Let's see aTm run the ball some and stop the run a little before we all mark it up as a defeat. So far they haven't been able to do either in SEC play vs top teams. And Tennessee will be their 4th straight sec game.

I wouldn't underestimate any SEC Team, UT seems to get everyone's A Game. What sidline decisions has bUTch been directly linked to that cost UT a game? and I mean cost UT the game?

Go Vols!!
