Just imagine what car mechanics do to jack up the price. I think firestone trains the there techs to say "I wouldn't drive it that way if it was my car." Ripoffs

These guys and car mechanics are ridiculous. It's hard to know really what is going on.

I had a guy at my dealer tell me I needed a new battery and timing belt on my car w 60k miles. He wanted to charge me 250 for battery and installation. I said no so he said he would just put the new battery in or only the cost of the part. When i asked what the recommended mileage of a timing belt to be replaced he said 100k, but since u are here might as well get a new one. I just laughed and said nah man I'll pass. Then he calls me like ten minutes later and said he found a way to cover it in the warranty so I got a new belt put in for free. I think he though I was gonna complain to corporate so he just put one in.

A good learning experience though.

Finding an honest mechanic is by far the most difficult thing to do in a new city. Even more so than finding a good haircut place.

Service reviews, service reviews, service reviews. They will not often lead you astray. Speaking of car mechanics, if you go to a highly rated shop and there is an unneeded repair, it's much more often oversight than anything... Even the best mechanics miss something from time to time.

What good are reviews if nobody knows they're getting scammed? Yea if I go loosen a hose on my water heater & call a plumber I could find out how legit they were but who does that.

call your local wholesaler/distributor and ask for recommendations. They will always have some names of legit guys and will know both small and large companies
