With a hat tipped to Dooley's comments in the PGP...

Next week we will see just how far this offense can go as we see how far the evolution of Tyler Bray has progressed. He's been in Neyland, and he's literally been wearing the Green jersey in the first two games. No one has been able to get even a hand in his grill to disrupt his rhythm. Da'Rick and Justin have been Olympians looking across the line of scrimmage at Farragut Middle School Field Day squad.

That all changes next week.

If Bray and Co. can make an evolutionary leap next weekend, make those throws under pressure, and not turn the ball over - Vol fans, we have a chance!

I think all of us that realistically follow this team, agree. It's big boy ball now.

But, with that said, you certainly have to feel a lot better going into these games considering where we were just a year ago. At least, I do. SEC games are no longer a cringe-worthy event as a knee-jerk reaction.

If you can go into the Swamp and come out of there with a victory, regardless of how some of the Gator fans are down-playing their team, it's a huge springboard going into the teeth of the season.

I dunno. Florida will obviously be vastly more talented than the likes of Montana or Cincinnati, but watching their games, it seems like though they are a more complete team, we still match up well because the few areas in which we excel happen to be their weaknesses. Expecting the line to open up at 5 or 6 in Florida's favor.

I wrote about this in another thread but I think this game is going to be a lot about coaching and schemes.

Whoever gets their dynamic duo free and out in open spaces is going to win the game

Demps/Rainey vs Hunter/Rogers

Let's get it on.....

it's the running game, that's going to make the difference, we have to be able to run it effectively, and set up the play action...

Yeah but the gators have not played a team as talented as us this year either. So we do not know if they are that good. The 2 teams Tennessee has played is more talented than the 2 Flordia has played.

I agree, but I'm a run-game homer too. I have never felt comfortable with our run game under Chaney. He seems to forget it at crucial moments (like the stalled drive after the first 4th down stop), and, despite the rhetoric from the coaches (maybe its a CIA misinformation OP) we are not a "run hard" team first and then throw deep. We are a "throw deep" and then run sporadically team (I'm not saying that's wrong with the three skill guys we have now).

I think this one will be a nailbiter, but we are going in to the damn dirty bog with a lot of confidence. We do present them with some match-up problems. It really is a question of can we deal with the additional pressure they will undoubtedly bring, and can we "bend and not break" against their offense.

I touched Brays throwing arm during Vol Walk while wearing my lucky shirt and knew it was coming, just saying.

Pretty sure Bray just had a better game than B.J. Coleman has ever had in his life, at any level of football, against any of the pansy opponents he plays against on a regular basis. Just throwing that out there.

What a difference a year makes. We were wretched this time last year. Could not convert a third down, QB position was horrible, run game was weak...so much improvement!

Run game needs to shore up for the Gators. We need 150 plus yards on the ground. Chaney is a pass guru but he's smart enough to know that we have to put some mileage on the ground to win in the SEC. Our talent right now is in re pass game and that's what we will lean on this year. Run blocking ain't quite their yet.

D line had a huge step forward. We will need to put Brantley

On his back to have and to contain their RBs. Brantley is bad enough to turn the ball over to us. Those RBs are good enough to give us absolute fits.

This is a great match up. Styles are different from our last opponents. We can beat em. I'm calling two plus TDs

literally doesn't mean figuratively.

also, he was sacked against Montana. But the overall point isn't a bad one.

He had a great game, no doubt about it.

He also has (thanks to Dooley's recruiting) probably two of the best wideouts we've ever had at UT.

I like BJ's chances throwing to those two guys as well against Cincy and Montana.

Also, I REALLY like BJ's chances throwing against Florida last year in Neyland. But, we got yet another dose of how badly Kiffin's recruiting wasn't up to scratch yesterday. Darwinism....

In addition, I will be ecstatic if Bray performs half as well as he did yesterday in the second meaningful start of his career.

:hi:

You've obviously missed gibbs' wi****l passages about how we'd be so much better off with Coleman as our starter.

We certainly would be. No serious commentator can deny that especially given where we were last year, when it would really count.

Regardless, next week is Bray's second meaningful start (might be harsh, yesterday was meaningful), and I will be among the few on here who will not abandon the kid, ask "can Bray ever do it against the SEC?" and the like if we don't get the W in FL.

In addition, if and when Simms has to come in (and I admire / like Simms a lot) this year and perform, I will be there to remind you of YOUR witless comment.

Just thought I would throw that out there when, once again, the real world outside the backdoor proves me right as rain.

This game will Bray's toughest test, no doubt. The speed of the defense will be unlike what he's seen and it will be his first hostile environment. That being said, dude is cool as a cucumber, I'm not sure he's going to be rattled all that much. He seems much like Clausen, and that guy was a gamer if we've ever had one.

We have the opportunity to abuse florida's midget corners as long as Bray stays on his feet.

When the Vikings invaded England they showed no mercy . The kid from Kingsburg, Ca will do the same next week he has the support of his great teammates at the 'BIG ORANGE" . Hang on to your hat it's gonna be one hellava ride .

Actually this will be Bray's first Start in an SEC game in a hostile environment. IIRC South Carolina wasn't too friendly last year when he came off the bench... Granted he gave them a gift immediately, but played pretty damn good in that second half...

On a side note... When was the last time you saw a UT offense throw over the middle as much as we do.. It has been a welcome sight for me to know not every throw was going to the sidelines..
