Darron Thomas named Oregon's starting QB

My bad, I was reading into the post above that one and quoted the next one..

It's great that Darron got the nod from Kelly, he's an awesome guy and will be a prolific QB at Oregon - all he has to do is make his reads and sell his fakes and the offense will do the rest of the work. If Tenn wins this game (unlikely), it's b/c Dooley is an amazing enough coach to reverse all the damage Kiffin did to the program during his short tenure, but honestly, those Vol fans not preparing for an utter shellacking at the hands of the Ducks are hitting that Orange pipe pretty hard and deep.

Yeah it won't have anything to do with having some decent talent and coming up with a good gameplan. Or Oregon traveling across the country or Neyland at night or any of the other myriad of factors that go into a football game.
Oops. I just watched that video of Thomas completing a decent pass two years ago against Oklahoma State. We're doomed.

I like how everyone is likening this game to Cal '06 just because we play in the same conference as Cal.

highly ranked opponent returning most thier starters except for QB. of course tenn was a hell of a lot better in 2006 than they will be this year.

Yeah but that 2006 team had a hell of a lot of questions.

No one knew if Ainge would rebound. Everyone was scared to death knowing he was the starter.

The WRs had all kinds of question marks. Meachem hadn't done much until he abused the Cal's one armed CB. Swain had been serviceable but nothing great.

The D had lost it's best DB and had questions at DT.

But the overall talent on that 06 team was better.

Good luck to this kid getting broke in on the road in front of 100,000+. He better have ice in his veins, or he could go all Nate Longshore quickly.

w/o Masoli Oregon won't win....your only hope is that we can't stop the run

I'm a Duck and I don't understand the logic in this post. Masoli was primarily a running QB. Chip Kelly has been pretty good at getting QBs ready to play on short notice. With Thomas at QB, we've got a much better athlete than Masoli and he's a better passer. The question is decision making on the option portion of the offense and turnovers. If he makes good decisions on the option and doesn't turn the ball over, he'll be equal to or better than Masoli. Granted Masoli flattened a few DBs with blows he delivered last year. Not sure we'll see that out of Thomas. Masoli is a tough kid and I wish him well.

Even with Masoli, Tennessee would have to stop the run to win. Of course that could be said about just about any two teams playing each other.

a) you THINK he's a better athlete and a better passer. You know nothing of the sort

b) as a first year starter you can safetly assume he's going to turn it over. masoli certainly did his first year starting

c) if if if if. i can't believe anyone would rationaly think a first year starter could be as good or better than a 3rd year starter. how often does that happen?

I don't think people really grasp the youth in our team, and the lack of scholarships. I know the jet-lag can play a part, but the sudden QB change.... I'm always wary of a QB change from a drop back passer to a 220-240lb monster than can make plays with his feet.
