Darnell Washington Announces He Did Sign On NSD

On one hand, I just don’t think he is a Vol. On the other hand, if he signed with Georgia, why put off announcing it? It’s not like it would be a huge surprise or anything. Not very easy to tell what’s going on here.

Also, I’m kind of disappointed in this thread. I expected to see way more “my cousin’s best friends dad works in the Athletic Dept and he said DW signed with X team” kind of posts. You guys are slacking.

Guy I go to church with is a huge OSU fan and his brother is a Michigan fan, that's another story within itself. But anyway he told me that Washington is going to announce on January 2nd but he's not sure if he will pick Alabama, Georgia or Tennessee. Said its even possible it might be somewhere else, but doubtful.

Does anyone else think it's odd that none of the schools he was considering have stated that he didn't sign with them? I mean, if he didn't sign with them, they have nothing to lose by keeping it secret.

Except future recruits would know not to trust those other schools regarding privacy - so it's a big deal as nobody should want to have that reputation in recruiting.

I am not holding my breath that he signs with Tennessee. However, I sure hope he does. I do think all the drama is extremely childish.

What drama?

Y'all are being babies. Signing his LOI to end his recruitment, and waiting until he's on national television to announce is perfectly normal. It's not his fault y'all have the patience of a kid with ADHD on Christmas eve.

Just to clarify for those who continue to miss it. First, he didn’t go to a game to see Harrison Bailey. He went to a game Harrison Bailey happened to be in. It was a game in his home town between two powerhouse programs and he would have gone to see any game like that. The fact that he talked to Bailey isn’t anything. He talked to a lot of the players.

Second, the date of his announcement has zero to do with the date of our bowl game. He had decided to announce at the All-Star game before we accepted the bowl bid for that date. It’s purely coincidence. Kids used to announce at their All-Star games all the time before the early signing period but since then a few have tried to keep it silent and still do it like that.

As far as why schools he didn’t pick would keep it quiet, I imagine it is a trust thing. You deal with kids and develop a reputation. If a coach was to promise to keep it silent regardless of his choosing and then goes against that it wouldn’t hurt their team short term but the word would get out that their word isn’t good. And that matters long term with future recruits. That’s my thoughts about it anyway.

I see your point, but it's still odd considering they wouldn't be violating privacy since only one school knows where he signed. Why would a staff allow it's fanbase to wonder if he signed with that school if he didn't? There is no reason to allow the speculation to continue if he didn't. Of course, I think the whole situation is odd.

I know an easy way to understand exactly who he signed with. It’s easy, yet has a few steps to take. First, go to the grocery store. Get all the fixins for a nice Christmas Day dinner. Try and be around as many family and friends as you can, watch the playoff bowls, and then, on January 3rd, check VolNation and see if someone started a thread.

It probably is Georgia. That is where most of the noise has him going. If it's confirmed that Tennessee and Alabama have broken off contact with him since the early signing period ended... then, it's definitely Georgia. I don't put any stock in him going to Bailey's game last night. I mean, what else is there to do in Las Vegas on a Friday night, but go to a high school football game?
Lol I've been to Vegas and there is plenty that an 18yr old 5 star recruit can do other then go to a high school football game 😂😂😂

I think it is against NCAA rules for a coach to talk about a player that hasn't signed an LOI with their school. Doesn't mean information couldn't be leaked but they can't discuss it out in the open with the media.

True, can't use his name.

He is playing the recruiting game to get his moment. More kids will do this at the AA & UA games in the future.
He won't be able to keep it a secret all the way to January 2nd. We will be able to tell who he is still in contact with vs who has moved on from him. The players who announce their decision at the Army All-American game usually haven't already signed.

If he didn’t sign with UT and Pruitt knows he didn’t (and he would) why would Pruitt say that this class isn’t necessarily done?

He’s referring to players other than Washington? Or what was the timing of Pruitt saying that VS when he might’ve signed? I assumed it was in a post class interview where he discussed all the signees.

Could have been referring to Jay Hardy and possibly others.

Crazy, ain't it?

You...don't happen to know anything, do you?

Tennessee isn't going to stand pat at 21 signees for the 2020 class, even if they have missed out on Darnell Washington and Jay Hardy. They are expected to sign the full 25.

He was hanging with HB every chance he got. He also did not attend the other high school but game that was also in Vegas. You can't just throw that away, especially combined with HB's tweet.
