Dark Souls 3 (Xbox One & PS4)

It's that hard and you beat it in 2 weeks?

Yes, it was the hardest one to play through since DkS1, which was my first one.

DkS2 was the easiest, with all of the life gems, you never had to worry about health.

By the time I got a PS3 to play Demon's Souls, I'd already dropped at least 1000 hours into DkS1 & 2, so it wasn't too bad, besides Flamelurker. I remember he gave me hell.

BB had super aggressive enemies, but you were fast enough to dodge most of the time, not to mention I eventually was able to hold 27 blood vials and could get health back from attacking after being hit.

If I counted Bloodborne's chalice dungeons, then it was probably as hard or harder than DkS3. I'm not sure yet though, as I've discovered today that there are some areas/bosses I missed in DkS3.

DkS3 had some incredibly aggressive enemies, that even at level 94, could damn near one shot me. And you can only get up to 15 estus flasks by the end of the game, so you have to be very conservative.

I've also been invaded more than in any of the others. I'm talking DkS1 Forest Covenant or NG+ in DkS2. As soon as I arrive at a bonfire, it is extinguished and here come the red, orange, purple, and blue guys lol

But in the past two weeks I have put almost 75 hours into this one, so it was quite a bit of time invested.

I think since you're a vet of the series, you'll have it beat pretty quick too. You have to learn a few new things, but it's pretty much the same in most ways. Just expect BB levels of aggressiveness from some enemies and not being anywhere near as nimble as you were in BB haha

I don't beat games quickly. By the time I'm done with my first playthrough, I will have covered every square inch of that game.

That's what I'm doing now. I haven't moved on to NG+ yet. Just fought two optional bosses tonight, maxed out my bonfire and estus, and +10 my weapon. You can beat it and keep looking about, like you said. Same as with DkS2 and Bloodborne.

Not to hijack the thread, played the first Dark Souls for about an hour and a half. Really enjoy it. Got to get out of the hack and slash mentality. What are souls of the undead?

Yeah, you definitely can't hack and slash. Your stamina (green bar) is as important as your health bar.

Souls of the Undead are small pouches of souls that you can pop and use to buy items or level up. Only pop them when you're near a bonfire and can level up, or near a blacksmith or merchant. You don't want to risk dying and dropping them.

No problem. From the beginning of the game (Firelink Shrine), you can actually go fight like 6 different bosses, if you know where you're going. The recommended path for a first timer would be the Undead Burg. Up the hill and into the aqueduct near the Firelink Shrine bonfire.

The best starting gift is the key

I'd recommend tanking your first time through. So throw points into Vitality and Endurance (health and stamina). If you want to hit hard, upgrade Strength, obviously. If you want to use fast weapons, go Dexterity.

There are three excellent weapons you can get in the first 15 minutes to 1 hour from arriving at Firelink Shrine.

1. If you want to use a big sword, suicide run into the graveyard near the Firelink Shrine, with all of the skeletons. It's near a headstone. It's called the Zweihander. 24 strength and 10 dex to wield.

2. If you want fast, kill the merchant in the Undead Burg. He's kind of hidden. He's sitting down and looks like an enemy (hollow). If you attack him, he aggroes, so be ready to fight. He drops the Uchigatana, which is a katana. I can't remember the specs needed to use it, but something like 10 Str and 16 dex.

3. A middle of the road sword can be found on the bridge after the Undead Burg (you'll know when you get there, trust me). You'll also find Solaire at the end of the bridge (he's the guy whose armor I found in DkS3 above). He will give you the White Soapstone, which you'll use to play co-op. Anyways, once you've (hopefully) crossed the bridge, and cleared it of danger, you'll find the Claymore. It requires 16 Str and 10 dex, I think.

Any of those three swords, upgraded properly, can get you through the end of the game easy.

I did not pick the key lol, forgot what I grabbed.

I got crushed in the grave yard. I did not know I could attack the merchant. Going to kill him.

I stopped a little past the merchant. After getting through multiple enemies, I got crushed by some bigger guy with his back toward me blocking my only path.

I was like oh yeah, about to crush him... NOPE

You can get by without the key, it just makes getting around a lot easier. It unlocks a shortcut through Blighttown. That place sucks more than any area in the series, aside from maybe Shrine of Amana in DkS2.

The graveyard is meant to be explored later on, so you should get crushed there. No worries. That's why I suggest a suicide run for that sword. Run down there with no souls, while hollow (so as not to waste a humanity), and just roll past enemies. If you pick up items, you keep them upon death. You just drop your souls, but you wouldn't have any or many in this situation.

Just make sure you buy whatever you want from the merchant, because once he is dead, he's dead. He also drops the Orange Soapstone and a key to the Lower Undead Burg, I think.

That guy you met is a Black Knight. They're one of the most difficult non-boss enemies in the game, so I wouldn't worry about getting my ass kicked by them either. He's protecting a really good ring that raises your defense when you're low on health. It's good for the beginning of the game, but not necessary. You'll find better ones, if you want to come back later when you're stronger.

You are supposed to hang a left up the stairs where an enemy is standing in front of a barrel (that he will push down to hit you with). You're close to the first boss...

Awesome. So at a bonfire, what does Kindle and Reverse Hollowing do.

Kindling the bonfires makes that particular bonfire refill your estus flask more. All bonfires give you at least 5 when you rest at them. Kindling a bonfire once makes it give you 10 from there on out. Later in the game you'll find a "Rite of Kindling" from a boss that lets you reinforce it to 15 and 20. Having highly kindled bonfires will save your life.

In order to kindle a bonfire you have to collect "humanity" from beating bosses, helping others beat bosses, finding them lying around the world (you should find a few on a body hanging in a well in the Firelink Shrine), and some merchants sell a few. You have to pop it like you do with the Souls of the Lost Undead and it will put a 1 in your top left counter next to your health and stamina bar. If you pop two, or beat two bosses, or help two people beat bosses, etc. there will be a 2 in the counter, and so on.

Reverse Hollowing means you're returning to human form so you can summon help. However, in human form, you can also be invaded. So choose wisely when you want to Reverse Hollow.

Upon death, you go Hollow again (zombie) and you drop your collected souls and your Humanity in your top left counter. If you can retrieve them before dying again, you'll recover them both.

TLDR. This is how they work, step by step.

1. Find, earn, or buy "Humanity" and if you're not already human, pop one so you'll have one in your top left counter when next to a bonfire. If you already have a number in that corner, there is no need to pop a consumable humanity item. Save them.

2. Sit at the bonfire and choose "Reverse Hollow" to restore your humanity. If you're human already, it won't work. Only do this if you want to summon help though, as humanity can be difficult to find early on, and you go hollow again if you die.

3. After reverse hollowing, pop another humanity (only if your top left counter is empty), and choose "Kindle" at the bonfire. If the option is available, you will burn a humanity from your counter in the fire, making the flame bigger and upgrading that bonfire to 10 estus flasks. Later on you can upgrade bonfires to 15 and then 20.

Awesome. Got to Taurus Demon Boss. Climb the tower and did a plunging attack, it worked well. Went up for a second time, drank a potion aka took too long and did not expect him to climb the tower... he crushed me lol. This game is really fun and sometimes frustrating in a good way.

Yes, you can plunge attack him, lead him to the other side of the bridge, roll under or past him, go back up the ladder, wait for him, then quickly drop on him again when he gets back over there. If you wait too long, he hops up there with you haha...

It can get frustrating, but it is almost always your own fault if you die. You either took on something too strong for you, got impatient, weren't being vigilant, or you weren't equipped properly, etc. it is entirely possible to beat the game at level 1. I've made it to Anor Londo with a level 1 guy, but can't beat the boss there :(

The game looks great as you would expect as its a From game. The first time I entered the high wall with that yellow sky and towers in the distance it was awesome. As far as difficulty I'm not sure if it's just because I just reached the dragon at the beginning or what. I only played an hour including exploring every nook and cranny and it felt like so far it was too easy. I'm one hit killing everything and I haven't even died on boss battles. The only guy that killed me was the katana wielding guy just outside fire link.

What is your class? The starting area difficulty is different for a knight vs a sorcerer. It's a pain in the ass early on for sorcery.

Knight, Warrior, and Herald have it pretty easy early on.

The difficulty seemed to spike for me around Farron Keep and beyond. There are some common enemies that are very aggressive and will mob you, if you don't watch out. I made it to Farron Keep yesterday, so this second time is much easier.

You've played all the others too, so that should help. Especially early on. Watching friends new to the series stream yesterday was comedy gold.

Which dragon? First one that lands and breathes fire? Which boss have you fought besides the tutorial boss? I think the first 4 bosses, including the tutorial boss can all be killed easily alone. The Farron Keep boss was badass and it is in your face non-stop.

I went with the knight so that would explain it. And just the first one you come across. I think only fought the giant boss at the beginning and some mini boss that was blue.

Yeah, the knight's armor and long sword carried me through the better part of the game. It was the first weapon I took to +10, once I realized big ass weapons were often too slow for the aggressiveness of many mid to late game mobs.

Hmm blue mini boss? What weapon did it use?
