Speaking of Arkansas, I'm in Mo and my boss is friends with their wr coach who told him that in recruiting DBG Arkansas gave him police escort, limo's, and paparazzi everywhere he went to make him feal like a celebrity. Also gave a pitty schollarship offer to his brother who has leukemia which offended the parents. It sounds like Petrino is pulling a Kiffen on these kids and making them feel like Hollywood instead kids. I think we know that works short term but can backfire.

A grey shirt basically means you pay for your education the first year, until a scholarship opens up. Redshirt means your on scholarship, but you will not be playing a snap that year.

He might be trying to imitate Kiffin but he sure isn't in his league as a recruiter. Arkansas' class this year absolutely sucks. How they have recruited so poorly (with booster help to go along with it) after their last 2 seasons is beyond me.

What is a grey shirt vs a red shirt?

A grayshirt means you can not sign a NLI(new SEC rule) and you have to wait to enroll as a fulltime student at the university the following Jan. It preserves eligibility. A student whos enrolls fulltime starts their 5 year eligibility clock at that moment. If a player that is waiting to enroll next Jan, lets say at UT, enrolls in the fall at UT or any school fulltim their eligibility starts that fall per the NCAA. Most recruits who grayshirt and delay their enrollment will only enroll part time somewhere until Jan.

Also grayshirt is not what it used to be. Prior to the new SEC rule and the new NCAA rue a player that grayshirted signed a NLI prevented them from going elsewhere for one full year. Now they no longer sign a NLI.

The idea behind the gray shirt was not to push players off to make room but to develop players for a longer period of time that needed it. Especially players recovering from HS injuries.

Example: Redshirt

Player enrolls for the fall at a school, but needs to redshirt to develop. One year gone and they train that fall and spring. The next year starts the four years they have left. So by the time they finish their fall senior(5th year) season. They will have been at the insititution for 5 fall seasons and 4 spring season. Any senior will not come back and for spring if they are not playing in the next fall. So basically they only use 9 of their 10 eligible semesters.

Example: Grayshirt

But a grayshirt waits to enroll in Jan delaying their eligibility clock. So they train in spring, but the school does not redshirt them until the fall. So they are a redshirt in the next fall and spring. So the 2nd fall on campus they have had three season to prepare instead of like with the redshirt. When they finish their fall senior(5th year) season they have used all 10 seasons of eligibility becaus ehtye have participated in 5 fall semester and 5 spring semester.

This is why other conferences disliked the practice from the start. The SEC was using it to basically allow the player to get an extra semester of training and development under him before contributing.

Sorry for the long answer.

Tino Thomas took a gray shirt. Orta, Saulsberry, Harris, etc. took a red shirt. There are a couple of UT examples.

They're probaly doing it slowly to stay under the radar. I bet they r having to keep ol Jerry Jones under control so it doesn't come back on them. IMHO that's all. Now that guy is a straight-up POS....

Come back in 3-4 years when the class is being re-ranked in the top 10 because we won 10 games a year.

Still butthurt over Peters I see. Lol if you believe anything Thayer Evans puts out, should learn to never believe anything he says after the Cam Newton debacle.

Arkansas didn't land any big targets other than Peters and Williams. You got beat for numerous guys throughout the recruiting process. Petrino is a good coach but will always be limited because he's not a good recruiter.

The reason you won 10 games last year was because the SEC is down. Thats not going to happen that much longer. Arkansas has talent at quarterback, reciever, and runningback (if Knile Davis is healthy).

Everywhere else, Arkansas is an average team. Guess what, your quarterback and recievers were all really good prospects. They were 4 stars or good offer list 3 stars. They are the reason you all are winning. Arky's defense is garbage and their o line is average at best.

Arky is an average team and gets exposed when they play a team with a good defense. Does LSU and Alabama ring a bell?

Outside of Knile Davis (4-star), Cobi Hamilton (3-star), and a couple highly-ranked DTs (Jones and Jones), the 2009 and 2010 classes were not that good.

Almost all of your impact players on offense are moving on/graduating. Trying to defend your garbage recruiting class this year and last is sad. As soon as you start losing, kiss Petrino good-bye.
