In the pregame introductions to the Patriots vs. Chargers game I noticed that all of the other players were saying what college they played at yet when it was Donté Stallworth's turn he said, "Grant High School, Sacramento, California."

I'm not saying he was embarrassed to state that he played at Tennessee but it sure makes one wonder.

( oops..sorry for spelling his first name wrongly in the title..that should have read "Donté." )

Donte has always said Grant High School. Guess he has never been proud that he wore the orange.

I thought he said that because he didn't actually graduate from UT.

If it's true that'd be puzzling considering that from what I heard he tried to stop the fact that he had declared for the NFL in order to stay with the Vols back then. Perhaps I'm wrong about that.

Given the graduation rate of guys playing in the NFL, you'd rarely hear a college called out if graduation was a requirement.

I did not know that was true. I didn't think you had to graduate from your university to say that is where you played your college ball during the starting lineups.

That leads me to this question. Jamal Lewis says "University of Tennessee". Did he come back and get his degree after he left early? I don't think he did, but I'm not for sure.

I used to pass Jamal in front of the old Glocker building early in the morning back in the fall of '99, always with his motorcycle helmet cocked back on his head...I remember talking to some guys who had a class with him and they said he quit going after about the second week - presumably because he knew he would be declaring for the draft. He was having a terrible year......No way in hell does he have a degree.

A few years ago, I heard that most of the players are encouraged to shout out their college teams only if the graduated, but not mandatory.

In any event, a lot of people shout out their high school names. Don't feel the need to take it personal or as a swipe against UT, guys.

I simply say that because between rehabbing knee injuries and dealing with his legal issues, I can't imagine Jam has had time to take care of his degree requirements.

Be sure you know that I was not saying he was embarrassed or did it to face UT...just wondering aloud. That's all. Just fodder for discussion. It's cool.

wasn't it Jamal Lewis that said "University of Untouchables" at the Super Bowl a few years ago?

We have this thread a few times per year. Many NFL players do the exact same thing.

I'm a screamer... that's what I do. Because of that, my message has been removed.
