Danny White on the state of Tennessee Athletics

It’s amazing how quickly we can take quality leadership for granted. Danny White is a breath of refresh air to the program. I may be mistaken, but I don’t recall any of the previous stiffs that occupied the AD’s office holding himself accountable to the fans and public. Correct me if I’m wrong, but did Dave Hart ever give a State of the Program address on YouTube or anywhere else?

As far as I’m concerned Danny White hasn’t put a step wrong yet, and Tennessee Athletics is better for it.

He’s made mistakes I’m sure but he’s quick to recognize and course correct when he does.

In my opinion, 1 definitely and 1 maybe.

Should have replaced CKJH last year as the coach of LadyVols BB. She has gotten an extension in his tenure and the women are just fundamentally not good and don’t tell me it’s just injuries. The basic basketball skills are lacking and tenacity is nonexistent on the ones that are on floor.

The maybe is the men’s soccer coach, I am not sure he makes it long term.

One possible mistake on the horizon is not locking down the women’s volleyball coach, they were a point away from elite 8 and a real shot at final 4. She will bolt to UNC if given the chance. Time for handcuffs in a contract that keeps her here.

Edit: should be women’s soccer not mens

Granted. Overall however, the tone of everything coming out of the AD is fan-centric, accountable, and positive. In my 40 or so years as a fan, I’ve never seen it run this way. The Old Boy network always kept it close to the vest, good or bad. Our job was simply to buy the tickets and not ask too many questions.

White probably is keeping a close eye on the women's basketball program and he is the best athletic director Tennessee has had since the Dickey and Woodruff tenures.

To be a great AD at a major college all you have to do is don't make headlines and hire winning coaches.
