I am so glad that I guessed the wrong White kid.

His Dad is an AD. His brother coaches Florida men's hoops. His other brother is an AD. His sister is an assistant AD. At least one of those somebodies is getting by on the family name, and with our luck, it's the guy we hired.

can we put the breaks on the 'successful' football program until we have maybe 3 years of consistence success/improvement? otherwise, the report of Tennessee's "resuscitation" may be just an exaggeration -- Mark Twain

sure, be excited, by optimistic, but don't go nuts and build a statue this early.

My comment stands - Heupel resuscitated the FB program. We were terrible in 2020 BEFORE 25 players exited the program. Metaphors about death or life support seemed appropriate for the near future. Resuscitate literally means revive from apparent death. As for "putting the breaks(sic) on the 'successful' football program" - those are your words, I never said successful.

I'll not build a statue, and you work on getting over yourself. Deal?

I’ve said it before and will say it again. To me, this turnaround started above White. Randy Boyd.

I think we can be competitive. The Director's Cup allows each university to count results from the 19 sports teams that did best. So if you have 19 or more, you can "use up every space on the score card."

Sure, having 26 or even 30 sports allows for more mulligans so that your 19 best score as high as possible, but that's a relatively small advantage.

I think Tennessee has 18 sports. Depending on whether outdoor and indoor track & field count as separate sports. We have:

(1) football, (2) men's basketball, (3) women's basketball, (4) baseball, (5) softball, (6) women's soccer, (7) women's volleyball, (8) men's tennis, (9) women's tennis, (10) men's golf, (11) women's golf, (12) women's rowing, (13) men's swimming, (14) women's swimming, (15) men's track & field, (16) women's track & field, (17) men's cross country, (18) women's cross country ...and if indoor track is separate,... (19) men's indoor track & field, (20) women's indoor track & field.

So I'd say we can compete. Even if the Stanfords and Texas' of the world have an edge with their "extra sports."

Oh, I agree 100%. We've finished as high as 7th? I believe in the late 90's early 2000's... we can rank very high, but to actually be #1 in the final rankings would take a miracle, IMO.

As happy as I am to have him here, I think some are under valuing the efforts of the folks that are and have been overseeing these programs within the department. How many of the key sports OUTSIDE OF FOOTBALL, were trending down upon his arrival? How many coaches has he had to replace? We need to be appreciative of those that oversee the daily activities and report their findings upstream. He seems to recognize that himself since he has basically prioritized resigning rather than replacing coaches since he arrived. NOW, sustaining and improving our fortunes is important and I feel confident that his pedigree and his reputation give us a shot to do that.

I don't think this is fair to him. These people had every opportunity to succeed, before he arrived, and did not. Whatever he is doing is working. Period.

All I can see is an upward trajectory since he has been here, in all sports. It is like night and day (it's especially obvious in football). It just seems like our teams expect to win, and go out there and do it.
