Danny O'Brien suspended (now returning to practice)

We need to quit punishing people who can use a substance legally in one state cross a state line 5 minutes later and arrest or punish them due to a failed drug test for their legal use. I say that as I'm in CO for part of next week. Weed is a plant, like a tomato plant, no processing required except picking it.This is the 21st century and we need to stop being double dumb how we manage a plant that grows wild along the highway ...pun intended? You figure it out.

Agreed, Remy. The weed laws in this country are ridiculous and skewed. I've grown both and tomatoes are the more difficult, by far. Hope you enjoy your time in CO next week....

Agreed, celina, and I'm not making excuses, but, these are college kids and it takes some longer to grow up than others. God knows when I was at UT in the mid to late 60's, I did some things that makes me shudder just to think about. I, for one, know there are guardian angels amongst us, no doubt.

Grow up?
Since when did doing enough wrong to get suspended mean you just weren't grown up? I get so sick of that thinking.

Not all of us have lived our life mistake-free, apparently, like yourself. You are to be congratulated. BTW, it's not a way of thinking; it's called life's many pathways and choices, both good and not so good. These are college kids just starting to experience life away from home, in most cases. In this "Anything goes" pop culture that we're in, nothing surprises me anymore. Sad....

I did things and made some bad choices in my youth that I am not proud of and would kick my own arse if I could go back in time. I am sure all of us have done stupid things and made bad choices in their youth but they aren't in the public eye like these football players today. These guys are still kids and still finding their way in life and are going to have to live and learn just like the rest of us. I guess for some it's easy to cast judgment when they are perfect and without sin.

Amen, brother, and thank you....

Hubbs said "there is no guarantee he'll be back this year."

I don't know if Id say he's likely done. But it's a possibility.

I hate it, but, whatever he did must have been pretty egregious. Hope springs eternal; I think he could help us right now, big time.

Here is the post I was referring to with info from the War room last night. The post might very well be referring to your quote. Translations are interesting for sure.

- Not looking good for Danny O'Brien. VQ saying he may not be able to even rejoin the team this year. This goes beyond the football program.

Ya if we have any more DT injuries we are screwed.

Most of these players are probably pretty good kids that happen to make some bad choices but they're going to have to learn that their are consequences to the bad choices that they make. I hope what ever this young man did, he doesn't have to pay for the rest of his life and can learn from it and become a better person.

O'Brien's situation has me lost. I'm trying to get info from a few sources, but either they don't know, or they are doing a good job leading me to believe that they don't. Normally, a 1st failed drug test is handled internally, 2nd gets 1 game suspension, and 3rd you're gone. This doesn't "fit" into the normal consequences which leads me to believe it's something different. A crime would have been reported in the media, so that leaves what?
