Danny O'Brien suspended (now returning to practice)

Selfishness. I could care less if he ever dons a uni.again.I am over the Crowder and O'BRIEN's of the world. If Butch wants to win this game bench Bambi on roller blades and bring on shy and KMac and for heavens sake Kirkland.

Ironically, most people on here couldn't care less about your judgement. Especially considering the fact that you know only 1 thing, that he was suspended.

just unbelievable thought process here.

people need to understand the difference between a 5 star lineman vs a 5 star skilled position player. much easier to plug in a skilled position guy than a big man who needs to improve technique and conditioning.

These gomers will wonder what happened when Samje rips through the line because Kahlil is gassed or out of his gap. They are like children on Christmas morning wanting to play with their new toys.

A lot of people are asking how conditioned you need to be. I played DIII and have a lot of friends in the coaching world at the DI and nfl level so I have some insight. These guys are training to play each play at 100%.

So lets assume Oklahoma has a drive where they are lining up and running plays at a pace that make it hard to sub anyone in. So five plays into the drive the O Line is performing at 95-98% and K Mac is gassed. If he's at 80% he starts getting pushed off the line and can't get a strong pass rush. That's the fear of putting a guy in that isn't ready.

I'm one of those fans. I still know not to jump off a cliff if a player isn't an instant Pro Bowler. :gone:

You were not an instant pro bowl poster when you first started here but with practice, you're getting there. Once you got the emoticon thing down your trajectory has sky rocketed.

I honestly don't know why I decided to post or even lurk, but this message board is embarrassing

these are the types of games that you really need a full deck and this guy goes out and gets suspended? thats just awful man. So tired of the BS. Now we have to count on two true freshman and one cant play more than 2 plays without getting winded. Nice.

I'm with Butchna on this one. As much as I want KMac to come in day 1 and plant people on their butts, he just doesn't seem to have the conditioning yet to do it for more than a few snaps in a row. He'll get there but we have to be patient. In the meantime Vickers is better than you guys are giving him credit for imo, and is more apt to hold up for the length of a game right now.
I think everyone needs to leave the conditioning bandwagon behind about KMac as it's approaching trolling in a similar stretch about Dobbs can't throw. All the indications from the coaching staff to date is that KMac did everything the coaches asked him to coming into fall camp. Not once has anything been officially put out there about his conditioning similar to not once did the coaching staff say anything about all the problems Dobbs had with making throws. There's no doubt he's been wearing a green jersey, they don't slide one of those on somebody because they're winded. He did not look like he ran out of gas going up against big Mo or anyone else for that matter, get off the kid, he and Shy are the present if O'Brien keeps hosing up.

Vickers and McKenzie and Tuttle will need to bring their A game on Saturday against the Oklahoma running backs.

Yes. They have referenced KM's conditioning on several occasions as a reason he was not ready to play. Jones this week also said that his injury had slowed his progress.

I'm sure they run 'em till they puke in practice, but if you do that in game situation, you give up the big play and lose the game. Kids need to be in game condition now.

Big difference between running shape and playing football shape.

He's talking about O'Brien not K-Mac

Edit: For not being able to spell. smh at myself :thud:

you gotta be a dumb SOB to get suspended on a Wednesday of OU game week. Way to let your teammates down, DO!

If he gets gassed and needs someone to sub in for him, precedent has it that all he needs to do is feign an injury and collapse.

O'Brien= SELFISH and tired of this crap
Vickers and Tuttle will need to start and K-Mac needs to rotate in and suck it up. If he is good enough to throw people around in practice, he is good enough to play a few series.... He can rest up and recover next week during Western Carolina. Worst case move Mosley over to plug some holes... If we don't get pressure on this OK QB, we are in for a long night in the secondary and it could get ugly.

The question was brought up whether the coaches have always played the best players or not. I chimed in with my response.

Who else wants to jump on the pile today? I'm getting crucified in this thread because of a post that I agreed was an overreaction and edited. But that seems to be how it goes on VN. A guy says something unpopular and everybody gangs up on him and piles on top of him. But I've got thick skin so I'll be that guy today. Come on VolNation! Jump on! There's room for plenty more!

You've deserved every lash.

This will turn out to be a good thing for the Vols. kind of like having to start Dobbs was a good thing last year. Go ahead and get those young men some much needed game experience. I expect to see an increase in production from that position!!
