How dare he smoke a plant that came out of the earth...ridiculous. But hey, go get a script and take all of the man made chemicals you want and get addicted, so big pharma can make billions. This country needs to get over that ****. It's a plant that god put here for a reason
While I agree with what you said...you can become addicted to anything...dependency is the key word...and marijuana does not cause dependency.
I would say that there are many more Americans that are "addicted" to caffeine than THC. Caffeine may not have quite the psychological effects of THC but prolonged use can absolutely cause damage to your body. Also, speaking of "tolerance and withdraws" caffeine falls in the same category. So, I would say most Americans live with some type of addiction.
I personally would put nicotine, caffeine, and THC all in the same category. All can be highly addictive and cause damage to the body with prolonged use, but none of them cause dependency like alcohol...
But that's a topic for another day![]()
What kills me with herb though, is that god put it on this earth for a reason, for man to use for healing purposes. But people defend the government when they say it is bad because it is illegal, so you're essentially saying that government out ranks god or that government is god. In the same breath you call yourself a Christian or whatever. Can't serve 2 masters. America is a very confused and lost nation. Bless your hearts
LOL....alcohol isn't illegal; weed still is in most of the country.
Also, a player CAN be kicked off for drinking alcohol if they are caught getting drunk, they are underage, and/or if the team rules are no alcohol.
Not to mention you switched from talking about the issue nationwide back to specifically about the team.
think he had been suspended before for weed. guess he struck out
I am a 66 year old. If he was dismissed for smoking weed this is another example of how this nation is hypocritical in its laws. Alcohol is tolerated in certain circumstances (you know what I mean) but weed is 100% illegal. If treated the same as alcohol many young good men would still be playing. If team testing for alcohol was instituted my guess you would not be able to field a team on a given Saturday.
I smoked weed as a teenager like a large percentage of those on this board probably did at his age. That being said, I had a job that that did not tolerate smoking weed and tested its employees on a regular basis. If I wanted to stay with this company I had to make a choice of which was more important to my family and my career. It was very simple for me. I quit. I retired 20 years later.
These players are all faced with the same situation and decision if they want to stay on the team. If you can not abide by the rules then you get the discipline you agreed to when you signed.
It is a fact of life. Until the laws and team rules change you have to know where your priorities are.
Are we speculating a little? I don't recall anything being released stating Obrien failed a drug test for smoking Marijuana at any point during his time here... And why is it always assumed that when a UT player does indeed fail a drug test that cannabis is the reason?
