Danny O"Brien dismissed from team

Can't keep making the same mistakes. Unfortunately it leads to this. Stay off the green if you are trying to be a professional success!

The lack of understanding about cannabis from the folks that live in the state of Tennessee is staggering. you guys are not getting the education because the state is so strict in it's substance laws. Cannabis is habituating, it is not addictive. You can kick it if you go a few weeks without, and yes that can be difficult, but no worse than anything else in life, and certainly easier than kicking alcohol. You're mind makes it's own cannabinoids, just like the stuff in cannabis. When you artificially introduce these cannabinoids into your system on a regular basis your brain goes "wait a second, we have too much of this stuff" and it shuts down production. When you quit smoking your brain is no longer making these cannabinoids and you feel like you are going without. Cannabinoids are chemicals that relax you and control stress so you get agitated and angry easily for a few weeks. After that you're brain goes "wait a second, we don't have enough of this stuff" and begins production again. Then you no longer feel the physical need for cannabis.

In addiction your brain is altered and unable to repair itself. You then have a brain disease that needs help beyond what you are able to control. You spiral out of control.

and now you know.

From a very reliable source on Danny O'Brien being dismissed from team:

Urine drug test came back with THC.

Not necessarily done in ER.

It would make sense that some players were tested before Saturday. DO falls into that category unfortunately.

Don't disagree. However, I doubt they would make him get up to pee with his injury norcwould they necessarily collect urine. Ergo the blood test. Could have been urine today.

He was more than likely tested before the game. I've been there and I've failed. He was tested probably before Saturday

They don't make piss pans anymore?

I thought he flew back with the team so I would make more sense if the test was pre aTm.

SMDH... I was afraid it might be something worse.. I'm glad it wasn't..

Why did they do a drug test? What were you in the hospital for? (not to be nosy; they have to have a reason)

And they can release the results to you all day long. Just not to someone else without (1) your consent or (2) a legal reason. For instance, I can't go to your hospital's Health Information Management department and say, "Hey, I hear you did a tox screen on DMichel. What were the results?"

A couple car wrecks, chest/back pain (bronchitis), and another visit or two (can't remember offhand what for).

It's been mentioned numerous times in this thread that the team DOCTOR would have access to his medical records. I've also seen mention of a waiver that players sign giving the team full access to medical info.

A few tried explaining this but its the green thumbs vs the get off my green lawn crowd up in here ruining a thread about a player we all care about.

For anyone interested

There are several consent forms signed for the release of private info in arrangement of playing for universities.
The info may not be made public but there is a lengthy list to which your records (tests etc) are made known.
Hipaa is not loophole free for the sharing of records among the university and partners.
this is just the AD version but there is also NCAA and "related" to University medical (insurance co.mpanies etc.)
First Positive Test Result
Notification of the first positive test result will be given to the student-athlete, head coach, Athletic Director, the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine/team physician, and the student-athlete’s parent or guardian.
A student athlete who yields a positive test will meet with the Athletic Director to discuss the violation and the consequences. The student-athlete will be given a copy of the testing procedures and will be clearly informed of the consequences of any future positive results. The Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine will refer the student-athlete for mandatory participation in the “Attitudes and Alternative” Program.
The student athlete will be assigned to a regular schedule of re-testing, which is consistent with the drug or drugs that have been identified. A supplemental chart listing drugs and time periods allowed for clearing the system will be kept on file with the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. Testing will continue for one calendar year from the date of retesting, as long as the student is enrolled at the University of South Florida. Any positive test result thereafter will be considered as a second positive test result.
In the case of circumstances involving evidence of prior usage and/or related criminal activities , the Athletic Director may automatically advance the student-athlete to the second positive test stage.

Second Positive Test Result
The above parties will be notified as previously described.
The student-athlete will be suspended from athletic participation and must meet with the consulting psychologist for evaluation. Feedback from this evaluation will be made available to the Athletic Director and the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.
The Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine, team physician, team coach(es), and consulting psychologist will meet to discuss particular circumstances surrounding the second infraction. Information relevant to the individual’s case will be gathered, including an interview with the student-athlete when deemed necessary by the above mentioned parties.
Disposition will be determined on a case-by-case basis. The student-athlete will be reinstated at a time deemed appropriate by the head coach, Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine /team physician, and the Athletic Director.
A regular schedule of re-testing will continue for a period of not less than one calendar year from the second positive test.

Third Positive Test Result
A third positive test will result in further notification of the above parties.
The student-athlete will be immediately dismissed from his/her athletic team. This dismissal will be regarded as permanent.
Furthermore, the student-athlete will have his/her athletically related financial aid terminated at the first point allowed by the NCAA rules.
