Daniel to Texans

Daniel will be missed this season. Not only did he punt for distance but he is also very accurate. He has never gotten the respect he deserves.

Wouldn't go that far. Not many punters get drafted period. I'd be surprised if more than a couple got picked.

Townsend, Scott and Dickson were drafted ahead of him. He had equal or better numbers than any of them. The only reason Daniel didnt get drafted was because he went to Tennessee.

Normally, that’s true. However, the commentators said that four punters were drafted, and that hasn’t happened since 1999. Considering Trevor’s outstanding career at Tennessee, his not being drafted makes no sense whatsoever.

I doubt that. He was in 3rd or 4th place on on the all American rankings.

I am very impressed with these players doing well on draft day. I must say that it is a further indictment of the coaching staff that this many players got picked off of a 4-8 team. Great job by the individual athletes though.

Ok then explain why Daniel had better numbers than Scott but didnt get the same respect? Its the same thing with JRM not making first team AA. Numbers were there. What school you play for is just as important as your stats.

So tell me why Scott should be ahead of Daniel.

Obviously the team that drafted him

You reinforced my point. If you look at production, then Daniel should have easily went ahead of him. Alabama set a record for players drafted.

Put Daniel on Alabama and he likely would have been the top punter drafted. Like I said, where you go to school matters.

That argument doesn’t hold water… 50% of this year’s draft like all drafts Will be out of the league
in three years.. Thd only thing that matters is the person or organization who is making the pick at the time.. they felt that he was the better punter.. Scott can blast too.. game over

Not a good defense. Scott isnt in the top 20 in punting average. Yet somehow he gets drafted ahead of so many that were better than he was. So the stats tell the story. Look at the punters who were drafted. Townsend, Scott and Dickson. Florida, Texas and Alabama. See a trend here? Your argument is the one not holding water in this case.

It was absolutely baffling to see them (ESPN crew) talking up Scott and Dickson, barely mentioning Daniel. He was legitimately, without hyperbole, one of the best college punters I have ever seen. Huge leg, very accurate. Was a weapon and saved the Vols quite a few times by flipping field position.

Yet, they say that free agents can be in a more negotiable position than the very late-round draftees.

I think he will do as well as any NFL punters.

Scouts look at more than just stats. They look at hangtime, quickness to get the kick away, along with other things. I can't pretend to know why exactly they preferred the others. Just because they drafted Scott ahead of Daniels doesn't make him better. Daniels can definitely prove the scouts wrong. But I can promise you they didn't pass on Daniels because he's a Vol.

Slightly off subject, didn't they used to have a hangtime timer back in the day on punts? I wish they'd bring that back.

Scott only allowed 6 returns all year. That's tied for 4th in the country.

Daniel allowed 30. Tied for 125th.

It's great it a guy booms practically every punt. I'll take the one who doesn't let the other team make anything out of it.

You have got to look at the place the kick is coming from. How many times did Daniel kick from really long distances from the goal line? If he was kicking from a position that required a kick of great length as apposed to a kick that would require a free catch ( a kick with a long hang time), then it allows more to be run back.
When a kick required placement, he was as good as I saw all year.
