The FG on the road against Cal was very big and put us within at TD in the 4th quarter, hardly irrelevant. He kicked a FG to bring us within 3 of So. Miss that wasn't at a point where I would call it irrelevant. The Florida FGs were short and really didn't matter, so I can give you that. He kicked a BIG FG on the road against Miss. St. to give us the lead heading into half time (he went on to kick 3 more in that game as we closed it out). The FG on the road against Bama to put us within a TD going into half time wasn't chump change...and it was a 45 yarder. Obviously his kicks against S. Carolina were huge.
I don't think that his early season kicks were give-me's or no-pressure kicks. His first miss was against Miss. St., but he also went 4/5 on that day with some big kicks. His next miss was against S. Carolina.....a 50+ yarder.
His first half performance was big...and not at meaningless times. The end of the season was less impressive....going 2/3 against Arkansas, 2/3 against Vandy, and 1/2 against UK (with each miss being between 40-49 yards). And...we know that he missed a 30+ yarder in the SECCG...as well as a 50+ yarder. He slumped a bit near the end of the season....but even this slump doesn't look that bad when weighed against everything else. The SECCG stings...but it was a LONG FG he missed.
