Daniel Lincoln named ESPN all american

and i still stand by my point that your David is no better in those ranges
I don't care. AA / All SEC kickers shouldn't be going 8/14 when it really matters. I don't care about David either, just used his name as one I'd prefer. I'm sure there are several others.

last time i checked every game really matters. Not just games in November.

When it comes down to it, David and Lincoln were very similar kickers. Weber of ASU put them to shame, really. His attempts were less, but look at this comparison I drew up...

Weber: 22/23 for 96%
David: 25/32 for 78%
Lincoln: 21/28 for 75%

Daniel Lincoln's 20-29 yard miss at Miss. St. stands out. Weber's productivity at 50+ is impressive.

It probably makes more sense to give David and Lincoln 100% for their no attempts from 0-19 yards...here that is...

Damn... Not one congratulations..

Congrats Dan :salute:

Amazing people would rather discuss how undeserving a UT player is of AA status than be happy for the kid.

Congrats Lincoln and I hope you are our 1st 4-time AA.

Congrats Lincoln and I hope you are our 1st 4-time AA.

I can assure you that if this information had come with a link and been a news service pick for AA, there would have been many more congratulations. The discussion is a result of the confusion about how he was named an AA....at least that is why I was prone to discuss his merits. And like I said above...regardless of the AA talk, he still deserves congrats on a great 1st season.

last time I checked, his results in the Cal, UF and Al gamrs were immaterial very early. other than that, the rest of our first half were patsies.

UT Opp
41 YD 31 38 4th quarter Cal
38 Yd 10 13 1st quarter So. Miss
28 Yd 3 7 1st quarter Florida
22 Yd 6 14 2nd quarter Florida
47 Yd 17 14 2nd quarter Miss. St.
45 Yd 17 24 2nd quarter Alabama
48 Yd 24 24 4th quarter S.Carolina
(went on to kick game winner in OT)
33 Yd 9 7 2nd quarter Vandy
33 Yd 25 24 4th quarter Vandy
(missed a 41 yarder in the 1st quarter)
45 Yd 17 7 2nd quarter UK
(missed a 47 yarder near the end of the 2nd quarter)

The FG on the road against Cal was very big and put us within at TD in the 4th quarter, hardly irrelevant. He kicked a FG to bring us within 3 of So. Miss that wasn't at a point where I would call it irrelevant. The Florida FGs were short and really didn't matter, so I can give you that. He kicked a BIG FG on the road against Miss. St. to give us the lead heading into half time (he went on to kick 3 more in that game as we closed it out). The FG on the road against Bama to put us within a TD going into half time wasn't chump change...and it was a 45 yarder. Obviously his kicks against S. Carolina were huge.

I don't think that his early season kicks were give-me's or no-pressure kicks. His first miss was against Miss. St., but he also went 4/5 on that day with some big kicks. His next miss was against S. Carolina.....a 50+ yarder.

His first half performance was big...and not at meaningless times. The end of the season was less impressive....going 2/3 against Arkansas, 2/3 against Vandy, and 1/2 against UK (with each miss being between 40-49 yards). And...we know that he missed a 30+ yarder in the SECCG...as well as a 50+ yarder. He slumped a bit near the end of the season....but even this slump doesn't look that bad when weighed against everything else. The SECCG stings...but it was a LONG FG he missed.

The "ESPN hates us" remark is completely played out...get over it...

ESPN HATES US.. ESPN HATES US. ESPN HATES US.. ESPN HATES US. ESPN HATES US.. ESPN HATES US..
ESPN HATES US.. ESPN HATES US.. ESPN HATES US.. ESPN HATES US.. etc....

I was harsh on this kid when I saw reports on him being a very rough diamond in practice. I'm very glad he's done so well. As GaVol always puts it, we (me) are too vocally hard on these very young men when they don't perform. I'll try in the future to be a little more lenient.

Congrats. After watching Smyrna High School kicker put 5/7 in the endzone(one after a 5 yard penalty his team received) and the other 2 inside the 5 Saturday night, I miss the days of no kick off returns.

would you feel better if we just shipped our unis to Smyrna and fielded that team for the bowl game?

With where high schoolers get to kick off compared to where they kick in college, unless he's putting them through the uprights on the kickoffs, he's not really much of an improvement.
