I'm all for congratulations, but I just don't get it. He, correctly, wasn't even the All-SEC kicker.
I know zilch about kickers nationally and couldn't tell you which are freshmen or otherwise. I think Lincoln had a solid freshman season, but he's not, IMO, an AA. Hell, he wasn't even on the Groza award list, nor was he the All-SEC kicker.Name a freshman kicker who's performed better this year?
not at all. I'd take David all day long over Lincoln.
did you forget that we punted about 1,000 times this year when a 48-52 yard field goal was available. Some of that was wind, most of it was CPFs lack of confidence.
Again, I know nearly nothing about kickers, but I do know that our coach has little confidence in our kicker from outside 45 yds and that has to be for a reason. I'm not at all hyping David because I know little about him. I do think I'd be happier with him than Lincoln at the end of a game with a 51 yarder.do you know that David's career long is 49? Or that he only had about a 62% success rate last year? This year he was at 78%, while Lincoln was at 75%. I'm not saying Lincoln is the best, but David has nothing on Lincoln.
clearly the guy that made 78% was better.
agreed, but the late season dip concerns me.I think that it is worth reminding ourselves that the discussion isn't about whether or not Lincoln is a good kicker - but whether is a 1st team AA kicker at this point.
He had a great season..and if he continues along this path, we'll be in good hands and steal a few games before he gets out of here.
I'll be more than happy to ditch the AA talk - Congrats on a great season, Daniel!
how about this? go look at Lincoln at crunch time. Check him out over the last 4-5 ballgames. Had he not fallen off the world when it mattered, I would grant you that he is the better kicker.
Since the start of the SC game, Lincoln appears to have fallen off considerably. All of those games were tight affairs with our season on the line and the guy went 8/14? How's that make the stat line look?
We can all make stats say just about anything, but this kind of taper off is an issue. He was incredible for the first 2/3 of the season. That masks the issues over the last 1/3.
I think the missed chip shot was a confidence thing because he had started to struggle. If the weather caused the slide, maybe we should ask that the GA Dome be heated next season. He is from Florida...do you think that the colder temperatures could have began to affect his game? Because....he made some tough kicks up to that stretch, but I will give you...he didn't look as good near the end of the season as he did from the beginning to the middle. (This wouldn't explain the missed chip shot in the CG, obviously...just speculation..)
