Daniel Bituli interview

He needs to be on the field! Kirkland is athletic enough to play outside LB and move Bituli to MLB. He's a better option than most of the others we have, unless some major changes has taken place.

So, Bituli is going to relay the defensive plays and line everyone up? Instead of the smartest player on the defense? Instead of the leader of the defense? Great plan.

Exactly.

But knowing how stupid of a coach Butch Jones is, he'll continue to play scrubs like McDowell and Jumper ahead of a future NFL starter like Bituli.

Bad personnel decisions are just Butch's M.O.

What an arrogant a$$ you are. I really wish you are a troll cause to think you really care about the Vols hurts. Worst fan EVER.

There's a difference between being a good fan and a Jones fan.

JRM did this as a WLB in 2015. Don't see why Kirkland couldn't if he moved outside.

My idiot hero? Huh, are you always this pleasant? Jones has proven to be good at recruiting and mediocre at everything else. He's Les Miles without the title.

This is a completely different situation. JRM moved inside because we didn't have a better option at MLB and he knew the system so well.

In this case, we would be moving our best defensive player out of position to replace him with unproven potential.

I'm not saying DK Jr. couldn't play outside. I'm just saying that making that move wouldn't make any sense. You already have your MLB and he's a damn good one. Build around that.

JRM didn't move inside AND he made the calls for the defense.

The point I was making is that you don't have to have "MLB" written by your name on the depth chart to line up the defense and be th leader. So that can't be used as a reason against it.

The fact is that MLB and WLB aren't all that different in the defenses we've seen the over the past few seasons (though there has been speculation that Shoop may make some changes this year and use more 4-3 sets like he has at previous stops). So why not try to get your best two guys on the field regardless (assuming Bituli is the second best guy).

If Bituli isn't that far behind Kirkland at MLB and you know Kirkland brings more to the field at OLB than McDowell or Sapp, then why not try it out? I'm not saying they have to make that change or anything, but it seems like Spring would be a decent time to kick the tires and see what that combo brings to the table.

You're right, my mistake. Kirkland started at MLB and others got some time.

My only point is that you don't move a proven leader out of the most important position on defense unless you have a player that is clearly better. If you want to put them both on the field at the same time, that's fine, I'm all for it. But DK Jr. has studied, played and excelled at that position since he's been on the team.

I also took exception with a couple posters comments saying that DK Jr.'s "natural position" is outside when there is absolutely no evidence to back that. Some of us need to step away from the Xbox. This is real life and we operate on facts.

Tyler Byrd to WR.
Austin Smith to DE.

Kamara not starting.

Josh Dobbs not starting until he had to play.

Byrd is still in the air. I agree needs to produce more this season, and I think he will.

I dont think Kamara not starting is a mistake. I think he has some durability issues. Not a guy that can carry the ball 15-20 times a game consistently and last all year.

Dobbs didnt start because they wanted to redshirt him because that year was basically a throw away year anyway. We werent expected to actually compete.
