D'Andre Payne

Barnett was a better 4* who earned the playing time. I wish Hendrix was staying but now there are 5* kids coming. There is nothing we can do but wait and see. With Maggitt coming back it will be hard for Hendrix to get significant PT. He may have been asked to redshirt for all we know. We have to see if what happens pays off in future recruiting.

UT has no 5-star DEs committed. In fact the closest candidate UT has to Hendrix is Phillips and he is not committed and rated lower than Hendriz was. Also, you are off for thinking it's a Barnett "or" Hendrix argument. Hendrix was 2nd team as a true freshman. Teams with lots of talent rotate. It keeps starters fresh. I have no idea what the snap counts were and I doubt you do either.

Take a look at Calipari and see how he manages talent and egos.

In Rivals' Top 25, Tennessee currently has had the most attrition, with six players. The next highest is Auburn with four, one of which was tragically killed in a shooting. Auburn has had only one four star player leave from its 2014 class. We've had five four star players leave...do the math. This is anything but good.

Cool. You picked one team to support your flimsy argument. Do you know how Rivals arrives at their rankings? Hint: they only factor in the top 20 highest rated players.

So let me get this straight, losing marginal guys that didn't play last year and replacing them with more talented guys equates to another 6-6 record? Makes sense.

Yet it will be the go to excuse by some around here if next year's team falls short of 8 wins next season.

Cal manages 15 egos at the most...the signing class we're discussing had 32.

Losing 1 or 2 players I could see the argument being made that it is just players leaving for personal reasons. Losing 5-6 players points to a larger problem. IIRC even Butch admitted that he needed to look at how he had handled these players. He may need to change a few things.

Ga lost ten from the 2013 to 2014 football seasons. Calm down, it happens. Btw, we signed 32 so we can afford to lose quite a few. If we replace with better guys then it's ok. You don't build depth in 2 years. It's a four year process and right now we are in year 2. Because of Kiffin and Dooley we have to judge Jones on when he got here because he was left nothing as a coach. You guys want Jones to do what no other coach has ever done and that's keep all his recruits. Not even Saban can do that. If we lost the guys who played this year, then I'd be worried (I mean actual contributors and not Hendrix's two tackles). These kids were brought in on the platform of pt, some of them didn't realize the fact that not everyone can play based on depth and ability. It happens guys, depth should start to not be an issue by year 4 of Jones time here. I realized that and I am enjoying the ride. Calm down and let's beat iowa.

By showing concern over leaving players and questioning this staff, he now has motives?
Ridiculous.

Point out the question.

Can't really say 2014 was a great recruiting class. We have lost too many off that class that were 4 star players. So, either Butch missed on talent evaluation or too many kids don't like what Butch is cooking. Either way, the defections are making Jones look bad and will set the program back for another year. Face it folks, Jones is spinning his wheels.

What facts and numbers did he provide? Making a sarcastic comment doesn't insert credibility, it just makes you look as ridiculous as the guy you are defending.

He provided facts in his initial post.
You asked him to provide examples to compare to other teams.
He gives you what you asked for.
You say it's not good enough.

Now, who really looks silly?

If I'm a defensive end that comes into a class of 32 players and get beat out by another freshman, I can see the writing on the wall that I might be warming the bench for a while. Same with the tight end spot. One freshman beats out the other. Rarely do we have 2 TE on the field consistently, so one TE is going to be unhappy.

Scott got beat out by Hurd, and realized that a juco RB and probably 2 more RB were coming in the next class.

Also, we still have Sutton, Moseley, berry, foreman, swafford coming back at CB. We have Abernathy, Bruce, and Miller (if he sticks) already committed. And we are in it for Justin Martin and Amadi. So we should be ok at the CB as far as depth.

When you have 32-34 guys coming into a class, you have to expect attrition. I believe some guys left because of coaches, playing time, or whatever the reason. When the freshman that get the starting jobs start transferring, then I'll start to worry.

Pretty sure it's the cussing causing the Exodus. Ask anyone.

I'm UT student and first time poster..please nobody flame me! BUT, I wanted to point out that with the losses of Helm, Hendrix, Scott, Payne, Henderson and Paulk, according to Rivals' 2014 Recruiting Rankings, UT's average star rating, adjusted for 2014 attrition is down to 3.2, from 3.65...which leaves us somewhere below Kentucky, and Mississippi...around #20...not good. I love and support UT...but...this is bad. We are not Bama or Florida...we simply CANNOT afford to lose FIVE 4 star players in Butch's "first" rebuilding class. This is big!

Wow, when I added up the stars for the 2014 class after the transfers, I came up with 90 total stars. There are 25 recruits left after the transfers.

So 90/25= 3.6

That puts around 9 to 10 teams higher than us, but some of those teams had less that 25 recruits (Ex: UCLA had 18)

If I figured up the star rating wrong, please correct me.

Maybe you need to work on your reading comprehension skills and then go back and read the post I quoted and my response again.

I got it. My bad...

yep, and it won't kill uga b/c of the depth they already have! Which tennessee doesn't!

Calm down, it happens. Btw, we signed 32 so we can afford to lose quite a few.

And auburn signed like 25 last year? and lost three! It happens!

That right there is what so many people don't understand! They think b/c "we are tennessee" that we should just ascend to our "rightful place"....BS!

Agree, based on where we are, you sign a bunch of guys hoping some will pan out! if they leave fine, you get another prospect a year younger next year. It takes time!
