D'Andre Payne

When we are 6-6 again next year you might start to realize just how big these player losses are. Also, I wouldn't be so quick to assume we can just replace every 4 star that left with another 4 star. Butch has definitely backed himself into a corner. If we end up losing the bowl game I think fans are going to be even more disgruntled over these players leaving.
I won't be getting mad for a LONG time. That guy walked into a rebuilding job that I'm not sure any other coach has ever faced at another big time program. The players were completely apathetic and he has had to not only alter their bodies since dooley didn't make them workout but he also had to alter their mental approach to the game. I really don't care that these guys who lack mental toughness are leaving. I do agree that it sets us back a bit but if it helps the strength of the program for the long run I am all for it.

I don't think the outcome of the bowl game matters. It was getting there that mattered.

It would be great to win, but it won't be the end of the world if we don't.

BTW, saying Butch has backed himself is just stupid. This class had impact players all over and the ones that made an impact are still here. I'd have preferred to keep Hendrix, but not everyone is a good fit.

I'm UT student and first time poster..please nobody flame me! BUT, I wanted to point out that with the losses of Helm, Hendrix, Scott, Payne, Henderson and Paulk, according to Rivals' 2014 Recruiting Rankings, UT's average star rating, adjusted for 2014 attrition is down to 3.2, from 3.65...which leaves us somewhere below Kentucky, and Mississippi...around #20...not good. I love and support UT...but...this is bad. We are not Bama or Florida...we simply CANNOT afford to lose FIVE 4 star players in Butch's "first" rebuilding class. This is big!

Did you figure out what players every other team lost before reaching your conclusion?

I haven't compared our attrition to others'. But no matter what, Tennessee simply cannot afford to lose five four star players from its 2014 class. No team in the Top 20 of Rivals Rankings has to rebuild like we do, and has endured the losses we have in the last five or so years...

Don't kill the program before signing this year's top 5 class. You never know what may happen...

So, should CBJ wrap himself around their ankles like a 5 year old so they can't walk away? I am not sure what you expect him to do.

Well listen man you're going to get "flamed" if your research has zero creedence. Look at the attrition for the other classes then I'll really listen.

So you admit your initial post is garbage. Sorry, but posting a ranking and passing it off as a fact without doing complete research is a flammable offense. Hopefully, moving forward you will back up your chicken little routine with more accurate data.

So let me get this straight, losing marginal guys that didn't play last year and replacing them with more talented guys equates to another 6-6 record? Makes sense.

These compassionate souls want this for our program...disclaimer: a less prestigious FOOTBALL program but check out the coaching records AFTER noted monster Mark Mangino got run off at Kansas...he took over a .300 program and in 7 years had a 50-48 record...with a trip to the Orange Bowl included.

Coach Record Winning Pct

Turner Gill 5-19 .208

Charlie Weiss 5-22 .185

Clint Bowen 1-7 .125

Guarantee that the supportive fans who let the doom and gloomers, who rushed in with the audiotape of Mangino cussing out his players would have gone back in time and told him "Don't yell at your players...LET US DO IT FOR YOU...you just coach!"

Losing 1 or 2 players I could see the argument being made that it is just players leaving for personal reasons. Losing 5-6 players points to a larger problem. IIRC even Butch admitted that he needed to look at how he had handled these players. He may need to change a few things.

In Rivals' Top 25, Tennessee currently has had the most attrition, with six players. The next highest is Auburn with four, one of which was tragically killed in a shooting. Auburn has had only one four star player leave from its 2014 class. We've had five four star players leave...do the math. This is anything but good.

What I really need is when I hire a mechanic, and he's fixing things, is for know-it-alls to come in off the street and start grabbing and twisting. Next thing I know, my engine block's on the interstate...I don't need YouTube experts...I got a guy!

Your problem is that you just don't understand the logistics of the roster. At any one time you essentially have 5 classes on campus (rsf, fr, so, Jr, Sr). Ideally, you would prefer to have similar numbers in each class. You've got 85 schollies or 17 per class. We signed 31 last year. We will lose a bunch of those guys.
Guys don't make it for a variety of reasons. Some are processed and some leave on their own. Look how many guys get processed every year at Alabama. You don't take 25 + kids every year without the expectation of losing a bunch. I'm happy with last year's class. Look how many kids made an impact on the team. Just because a kid is a 4 star recruit doesn't guarantee his success.

Did you even notice Tennessee signed the most players?

If I'm a defensive end that comes into a class of 32 players and get beat out by another freshman, I can see the writing on the wall that I might be warming the bench for a while. Same with the tight end spot. One freshman beats out the other. Rarely do we have 2 TE on the field consistently, so one TE is going to be unhappy.

Scott got beat out by Hurd, and realized that a juco RB and probably 2 more RB were coming in the next class.

Also, we still have Sutton, Moseley, berry, foreman, swafford coming back at CB. We have Abernathy, Bruce, and Miller (if he sticks) already committed. And we are in it for Justin Martin and Amadi. So we should be ok at the CB as far as depth.

When you have 32-34 guys coming into a class, you have to expect attrition. I believe some guys left because of coaches, playing time, or whatever the reason. When the freshman that get the starting jobs start transferring, then I'll start to worry.

Well you have to realize some of our three stars are playing like 4 stars (wolf, robertson, moseley) while these 4 stars that left really underperformed. The only one I wish didn't leave was hendrix. Others are just whatever to me
