Synopsis: DP thinks JG likes the attention and may be using it to sweeten his ESPN situation. Mentioned Tampa Bay as most likely if he went back to coaching. Questioned if JG wanted to get involved in the college coaching grind. Suggested that JG stay in broadcasting, but also felt that maybe he was not nearly as enthusiastic about MNF since Tirico left.

Didn't sound optimistic about JG to Tennessee, but also didn't totally dismiss the idea.

I think most logical people are trying to figure out how going to college would make any sense to Jon Gruden.

It don't make much sense.

But if Jon wants it. I'm for giving it to him.

Would love to see someone who could stick to sports and not interject their constant Marxist worldview into as many scenarios as possible. So, hasten the crash IMO.

Seems to me that ESPN has turned into 6 hours of sports and 18 hours of reality/personality TV. Midday programming is always about who dissed who, contract drama, social commentary. Their sports is still worth watching but the other stuff is like a soap opera.

Honestly, I hope Currie has long since moved past the flirtation with Gruden. He enjoys the attention, but he's never coming to Knoxville. I'm praying Currie has targeted the man he wants and is going full bore with him. Letting him know he's THE choice and THE ONLY choice for UT. If I'm going to day dream about coaches, I'm thinking Franklin, Patterson, Peterson. Those guys would be dream hires. Tired of the entire Gruden fantasy.

ESPN's “Monday Night Football” suffered its 4th-lowest rating ever on ESPN for its matchup between the Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers.

The game drew a 6.2 rating in metered markets, which was an 18-percent drop from the week prior. Only three other Monday night games since 2006 on ESPN have drawn smaller audiences, including a Week 6 tilt between the Colts and Titans that drew a 6.1 rating.

The poor ratings come as the NFL continues to deal with the controversy of player protests during the national anthem.

The internet, Sling TV and other alternative ways of watching sports, and people growing weary of ESPN not staying in its lane and trying to be a "Social Justice" platform - ESPCNN

Out of curiosity, since when does suggesting that one arm of a free market corporation should funnel cash to another arm of that same free market corporation represent a Marxist worldview?

Exactly. Patrick should know better. The idea that Gruden is trying to mild ESPN for more money when they are about to start making cuts is ridiculous.

People make college ball sound like brain surgery. Lol. Like it is So hard. So insanely hard that only geniuses can do it.

Then you see guys like Ed Ogeron with the IQ of a potato doing ok. Or Johnny Majors doing pretty damn well—while being so drunk his breath would melt plastic cups....

But, ya know, a super bowl winning coach would somehow fumble and bumble to get the job done. Haha. It’s comical.

Hell, even Butch Jones was able to win back to back 9 win seasons here. I’m sure Jon Gruden would win 10.....

And the reason? Uh, I dunno, because he loves coaching football. And wants to do it. He’s won a super bowl. Now he might want to win a national championship. Lol. That literally could be a motivation.

Why don’t people figure out why Nick Saban stays at Alabama. He’s won there. How much more can he do? He’s old. He’s rich. He’s got everything a man could ever want. His name will forever be chiseled into the granite of college football. Why doesn’t he move along or retire? What reason does he have to keep doing the same thing over and over and over. Year in. Year out? What’s the point. He’s got it allll......answer that question and you’ll know why Jon Gruden would want to coach college football.

ESPN is losing more and more subscribers every year. They turned left with the reality/pop culture shows and turned off a lot of people. Quality has gone down from years ago.

I think the liberal bias is part of it, but I think more important is people just aren't subscribing to cable at higher rates because they don't need it. ESPN highlights can be had more quickly on facebook and twitter at your favorite teams' page. Only thing sports fans need cable for is live sports, and ESPN wrote big checks to the NBA and the SEC and others with the belief people would keep paying cable for the ability to watch those sports. They apparently didn't realize there are many easy ways to get around having a cable subscription to watch your favorite team.

It's hardly rational. Gruden is trying to milk ESPN in the midst of their money troubles and inevitable cuts? It makes more sense that Gruden is trying to have his bases covered in case he's out of a job, which is probable with MNF's low ratings.

I find it hilarious the ones that keep whining for ESPN to "stick to sports" are the ones with a clear agenda every time they bring up the NFL's ratings. And if you think the "protests" are the main reason they are down, you're clearly pushing an agenda.

Yes, it's only the relative handful of players still kneeling during the anthem that is to blame; not terrible prime time matchups, outright football fatigue from terrible Thursday night matchups, and the millions that continue to cut the cord.

My question is how can anyone watch MNF with the volume up? I don't know how anyone does that, even when I use to watch MNF I had to basically turn off the volume when he was on.
