Last week UT was a top ten job. Now it's a top 20-25 job. The correct assessment is somewhere around 40-45. Sorry, but we are what we are. At best 10th in SEC, though out right last this year.

I think the TN fanbase is no more delusional than any other large state university football fan base. A little more reality would be nice though. The perception nationally is that UT fans form a lynch mob whenever things don't go their way.

And rightly so based upon the last 3-4 hires. Get in a reasonable candidate ( not a rockstar) and we would rally behind them the way we did the last two bums

he is entitled to his opinion, but he is quite wrong. and while the UT job isnt what it used to be, i dont think many would argue that its not a top 20 - 25 job

And Greg Schiano isn't even a top 100 coach. There isn't a single program in the country that was looking at hiring him except for UT because Jim Haslam III wanted to play golf with him on the reg.

People said the same crap about Bama when they fired Mike Shula. Are we going to let people who care nothing about the Vols define our potential or will we come together, give them a collective giant middle finger, and help turn this thing back into an ass kicking machine?

Tennessee fans working very hard and extremely proud of themselves for doing their best imitation of a rabid Chihuahua. Amazing a lazy, unimpressive pick like Shiano could inspire so much vigor. Guess it was saved up from the worthless season just finished.

I'm with this guy.

Remember last year when tOSU fans were saying they could beat the Cleveland Browns... and its Tennessee fans that are delusional? Absurd. We should all overlook a little thing like child molestation? He thinks he can read peoples' minds? And even if he could, is it too much to ask for someone with a winning record? Asinine. Absurd is too nice a word. I've disliked Patrick for years. But this is the last straw.

Dan Patrick is delusional to think that anyone would respect his opinion.

Dan Patrick can eat a bag o phallus.

No question Tennessee is at its bottom now.
We however have the facilities, financial backing, fan support ( when given a decent option), and historic recruiting ability to bounce back quickly if the proper leader is at the helm.

Get a solid coach ( not necessarily a rock star) and clean up the sh@t storm. Start winning, and Tennessee will be back to the forefront in no time. This is an undeniable truth ( even butch had preseason playoff dark horse talk during his tenure and he was trash).
Patrick can say what he wants but Tennessee WILL be back.

I also would make a counter argument. If a coach steps in at this point and can wade through the crap and and bring us back to winning, he would look like a conquering hero!
I would call this a great opportunity for a coach. It would be hard to do worse, and the ceiling is low.

We must address whatever problems are holding us back from the administration side. The academic side will miss the revenue that football brings very soon. The. Perhaps they will give the football program its due attention, autonomy, and respect.

All of these media folks saying UT fans are delusional - where have they endorsed/recommended Greg Schiano for a Power-5 head coaching position in the past year?

For those of you saying you are ashamed to be a Vol fan, fine, go root for someone else.

I've noticed a lot of this from the talking heads this morning. Hyams said basically the same thing on 104.5 this morning. 10-15 years ago the only way fans had a voice was through call in shows like these, and they controlled the narrative. What Volnation proved yesterday is that we do in fact have a voice. We let that voice be heard and stopped a horrendous hire. We also showed the babbling bobbleheads that they no longer control that voice. Message boards and Facebook/Twitter have made them obsolete and they can't stand it.

Like I've said in another post- this is just like in other media across the country and the world.

Radio shows, print news, and traditional sports media are at death's door. These *******s are just trying to stay relevant.

Let’s all be honest. If Dan Patrick had said Tennessee fans were right and Tennessee is a Top 5 job... people on here would be praising him.

This is a middle tier program in the SEC. No SEC Chapuniships in almost 20 years. I’m not saying it can’t change but other than facilities, fan base and tradition... the program offers nothing for an 18 year old recruit. I love the Vols but this program is run by a bunch of half wit losers

I would rather Tennessee lose every game it plays for the rest of eternity than win championships with a child rape enabler and honor the guy the way Penn State honors Paterno.

Nobody cares about his opinion of where the program is. I'm just sick of these idiots trying to spin this as being about not hiring Gruden or another splash hire. This is about the integrity of the University plain and simple.

I'll admit I didn't want him because his career has been very average.

It was a convenient circumstance that we could rally around the alleged connection to Sandusky, but at least we're not stuck with another bad hire.

To me the Sandusky link is peripherial because it's one of those unproven allegations. However, it is vitally important because every other team would use it against us in negative recruiting, and Currie was too arrogant and too stupid to realize it.

To me the other real issue is that Schiano and Butch are apparently clones. Micro-managers and control freaks. We just went through that inability to evaluate and adjust - not again. At best, both were barely adequate as head coaches in lower divisions - simply not acceptable as HC here at Tennessee - been there done that a couple of times.

Schiano and Jones are the personalities that would appeal to a business oriented AD like Currie because they are small minded people who set and mindlessly follow plans. They, rather than assistant coaches and players, are always right; and Butch proved it all the way to the worst team in Vol history. We did not need Butch 2.0.

There is no doubt that TN is not near as lucrative as a coaching job as us fans want it to be. However, hiring a boring, mediocre coach is certainly not the recipe for a cure. This is when it's time to go out on a limb and get the up and comer. Have to make a riskier hire essentially. I would do what it takes to try and get Matt Campbell if that too much I still like Mike Leach. I'm assuming venerables (clemson dc spellcheck) is not interested? Justin Fuente (vt)? Jim bob cooter been contacted? Anything better than greg schiano imo... liked the idea of dooley and butch better than him and hated both of those.
