I have been thinking about our woes this day and I got to thinking about what DM has done at Miss St. I know he has went through some lean years at MS but he has his team playing like they can win the sec west right now. But, he has also been there more than three years. he has had time to recruit the players for his system and he may have took the job at MS with better players and depth than we have right now. What I'm saying is, with time he has built something that may be very special this year. Without the time he has been given, would they be in the spot they are in right now.?

now, I am saying we have a special coach. Butch jones has our team fighting in every game they've played in this year. He came in behind Two idiots. one left in the middle of the night and the other came in and did more damage than good. If people can't see the difference in what we are putting on the field with Butch in his second year. I say you are blind or you don't want to see.

I am hurt from this game today. I am hurt for the players and the coaches. The team and the coaches have more invested than I have. these guys gave their all for Tenn. today and I (a fan) couldn't ask for more than what they gave today. A win just wasn't in the cards today but I believe our time is coming. Last week, after playing GA to a three point loss. A lot of you that are *****ing about the game today were thinking the same thing I'm saying today. Where did those people go?

We have seven or eight games left this year and I'm going to enjoy the games we have left. I might be mad some Saturdays or I might be completely out of my mind happy. I believe in what we are doing and I am going to stand behind my team.

Butch will get his time to do the same, but there is no escaping the expectations at UT are slightly higher than MSU. Or at least they used to be. No getting around this loss was devastating to giving him continued good will through the Bama, USC, Ole Miss, Mizzou run, and he knows it. Watch the end of his press conference.

I'd rather we build something that will last than have a Charlie Weis experience.

Dude got a 10 yr contract at ND for nearly beating USC

Fired 4 yrs later

I agree, the expectation are higher. and, to lose the way we did was devastating.

I'm sorry. I didn't get to see his press conference but I'm sure you are right and I believe Butch understands what is expected.

I am not ready to negavol but I question if we are conservative enough to risk a 17yd punt why aren't we conservative enough to run the ball 13 yds out from the goal line after a turnover? Why not run the ball 4 times hell don't even try a field goal. Don't get me wrong I liked the aggressive play calling it just didn't seem consistent with not going for it on 4th and 3. I don't think butch respected Fla enough to try to make something happen on offense. Our d was stifling them up to that point. Did we try any razzle dazzle? Reverses... I didn't get to see game

We would have to go 7-1 (with a bowl win) to equal what Mullen did in his second year at MSST. And that was in the SEC west... Granted, A&M wasn't in the picture at that point, but Bobby Petrino was. The east is possibly weaker than it has ever been, and we probably don't make a bowl at all. SMH

(Closing Statement)
"I know everyone hurts. I know Vol Nation hurts, but I do want to thank the fans and the fan initiative. The Checkerboard Neyland was outstanding. I think it was a great illustration. Around the country, just keep your patience. We're going to be alright. I've told you before, it's like raising your children. We're raising a football program and I'm just as patient as anyone. I'm angered and I'm upset, but I'm not discouraged because I see the progress everyday. You guys need to hang in there. We're in it together. We;re going to get it together. We're going to have great days, but we just got to keep grinding. I want to say thank you for coming out. We're going to need you next week. I promise you we're going yo get it right. We had a tremendous amount of recruits out here today---why wouldn't you want to come to the University of Tennessee after that? We'll be back. I promise you we're going to be a good football team. We're going to be a good football program. Just keep staying the course."

Butch Jones closing statement from today. I am still with Butch.

I can't believe Mullen had the same depth problems and was playing as many fresh. that we are in his second year.

he also just went 7-6 last year.

At UT Mullen would have been fired after 3 yrs based on our recent pattern.

Yes. Can you imagine us giving a coach 4 to 5 years of mediocrity? I can't. We lose to a team that Peyton couldn't beat and we freak out.

A lot of the frustration I see must be rooted in the inconsistency from last week's offensive output-v-Georgia compared to the unwatchable product-v-Florida. Expectations were high, but not unrealistic; including mine.

Toss in watching third-year coach Hugh Freeze beat 'bama and top it off with second year coach Mark Stoops take down South Carolina; both in dramatic fashion before their home crowd and yeah-it makes one wonder when-or if-Tennessee will get it right.

Both of those schools are on the '14 schedule. Does anyone see wins-v-either Freeze's or Stoops' teams in the cards, based on what we've seen to date ?

Time will tell.

Mullen has been at Miss St for a while now. He does have his own players there. But it also helped that his AD had some easy games for them to play for some years now until they got good. Hammy left Butch with Oregon, Oklahoma, and I believe Nebraska starting in 2016. Between what Hammy has done and what Dooley left in recruiting. Butch has had it rough. But if you remember nobody else wanted this job because they knew what kind of shape the football program was in at Tennessee. We got the right coach people just have to give him time. I mean my god Dooley got 4 years. That's a joke in itself.

Mullen was on the hot seat a year ago. He has solid depth and a very special player at QB. A good recipe. And he's a good coach. I think Butch has similar results in year 3-4

Dan Mullen might eventually go back to FL and become the HC. He helped Meyer win a few N/C down there.

I think he would be an idiot to go to Fl or anywhere else now. He can become a legend at MS ST .
