damn! not the greatest publicity here

Any good coach wouldn't be afraid of opening himself up to the fan response. Our problem is we have fans that seem to jump the line and start harassing a coach's family. Not every coach is going to look at that and think "Yeah, I'll give it a go at UT." No amount of money is enough if we're going to start attacking a man's family.

I don't think it's as big an issue as you think and again it's not unique to UT.

Do you think Butch Jones family gets harassed? What about Pearl's family? Win games and everything takes care of itself.

So it's okay to harass a man's family if he's losing? Wow. How do you not see that as dysfunctional?

this is ten times worse than kiffen booking for the coast. that episode didn't leave the distinct aroma that he was leaving a klan lodge. the vols grip on serious men's b-ball was tenuous at best. now, its an open secret about how those with non-European roots are regarded in Knoxville. if there's any doubt, just mention the president by name. I just hope this damage doesn't bleed over into other sports.

Wow, the IQ of this entire board just dropped from this post. Thank you for making the rest of us just a little less intelligent.

I didn't say it was ok.

You suggested it was to be expected. A man's family is off limits. I have no idea what you do for a living, but let's say you sell cars. I come in, buy a car from you, and a month later the car turns out to be a lemon. Is it to be expected that I'm gonna call your wife and harass her because you sold me a dud? WTH would that accomplish?

So we're the klan....who feverishly supported the Semite Bruce Pearl. Riiiiight.

There's plenty of kluxers in Ft. Smith...why not ask them about that little conundrum.

Other schools have been through it. Bama went through it. Auburn went through it. Kentucky. Those ADs eventually figured it out and opened up the checkbook, bringing in the Saban's and Calipari's of the world. Hopefully our AD will figure it out, that to ensure stability, invest in a proven commodity and stop the carousel of cheap hires.

There's one big difference in our case, the issues dont really begin nor end with the Athletic Department.....its goes much further up than there.

To prove your point everyone needs to read this Gregg Marshal article and read the entire thing. What's said at the end is powerful.

Gregg Marshall will not come to UT because of the fans. He will not put his family at risk.

Cal didn't sneeze in the least to pay 1.3 million.

I'd like to see a list of coaches that operate without a buy out, that's news to me.

Charlie Strong
Nick Saban
Buzz Williams had only $100k buyout at Marquette
Mike Anderson had a $550k buyout with Mizzou
Frank Martin's buyout is currently 1.5 million but will drop to $800k in year four.
Billy Kennedy has $500k buyout
Johnny Jones buyout is less than $500k

Until he does...then we'll interpret articles differently...anybody trying to infer that Knoxville is a bastion of hate, lost credibility before they finished typing.

You don't think that Tom Crean and his family were harassed by Indiana fans? He is in the Big 10 and despite making two sweet 16 runs, rabid Indiana fans want to run him out on a rail.

But I do not think that it is appropriate to harass a coaches' family. That being said, I have yet to hear any credible source say that CCM's family was harassed with the exception of some vague innuendo/hearsay comments from a certain local radio station.

We're not a bastion of hate, but we have some fans that don't know how to draw boundaries. Save your ire and criticism for the coach. Leave his family out of it. I don't think that's too much to expect.

so, you think this is good? then tell me about intelligence.

I see this as a fanbase divided. Some wanted him gone based on what they saw as poor coaching. Some wanted him to stay to see if he could build off his tourney run this year. What I didn't see, and still don't, is the racism you proclaim to be in play. You provide no intelligent arguement that Martin's race had anything to do with what has transpired. You're simply race-baiting. Take that crap elsewhere.

Did you even read the article? It wasn't about UT it was about why he would stay where he is and not choose to go to a bigger program for more money. One of the main reasons is because of his family. There is a perception out there, right or wrong, that this is exactly what has happened here at UT and not just to Conzo, hence the original article of this thread.

We had "fans" that sent death threats to FB players. I find it entirely plausible that we had "fans" making harassing phone calls to Martin's wife. I wish we could find these "fans" and lock 'em up. They're obviously not in good mental health.

Oh boy, here we go... Ignorant and lazy post on your part chief.
As for mentioning THIS Presidents name in Knoxville...how bout mentioning President Bush's name in Martins new hometown of Berkeley, CA... You'll see innumerable Leftists begin to foam at the mouth and spontaneously combust...
C'mon dude, you're better than this...

I'm assuming you meant to quote the quote I was responding to, otherwise, wtf?

i have tried to think of some examples that illustrate the larger point here, so i'll see if this sheds some light.

let's take phil fulmer as an example. he was fired. we know his record. we know what he accomplished. yet, even after being fired.....even after being replaced by people who failed miserably.....even though he is pretty much the only connection many people have to a period of tennessee football glory.....even though he is an alumnus and former letterman.....even though he won a national championship......

he is trashed by a large portion of the fan base. totally and completely disrespected and flat out made fun of.
