Work on turnovers but not be too tentative to throw. I like a gun slinger for qb. Sure they will throw a few more pics, but I feel in the long run you are better off. Lots of very good qb, threw for more int. than the average qb.
Long pick is just like a punt.

I’m generally ok with it unless we’re playing a I-formation ground and pound team.

Mine too. It was supposed to be "a long night for the Big Orange" after Miami marched down the field on their first possession. Became a long one for the Canes.
Ole Keith Jackson droned on and on about Miami and how good they were. Sometime late in the 4th quarter, he noticed the score board.

Peterman’s career passer rating is 39.4. You get a 39.6 just for attempting an incomplete pass. Leaf, Shuler, and Russell all had at least a 50.0 rating.

Peterman just wasn’t a high draft pick, so it didn’t sting as much to draft him, but in terms of actual play on the field and nothing else, he was statistically significantly worse than any of the guys you named. You and I could literally have a better passer rating than Peterman has.
Shuler had the bad luck to have an idiot as a coach. Norv Turner ruined him. Washington was the worst team in the league and he had Shuler play his first game on the road at Dallas. The defending SB team. He got hit every play.

Gus Frerotte did better than Shuler as a fellow Washington rookie drafted the same year. For whatever reason, Shuler just wasn’t cut out for the NFL.

Yeah. But Gus played all the bad teams and Turner played Shuler against the best. It didn't take long before he was injured. Turner was pissed that Shuler held out on signing his contract. It cost him a couple weeks practice and it put Gus in the starting position. The whole org was pretty much set against him at that point. The Redskin commentators really ran him down. Sonny Jurgenson was the worst. He like Frerotte because they were both idiots. Gus gave himself a concussion in one game by head butting the goal post...with no helmet. In the end, Turner got what he deserved...Fired!

As I have shared before, I will forever hear Keith Jackson ask Frank Brotles “ do you think Tennessee can get any pressure on Testeverde?
The response was “ I don’t see how Keith”.

Check the the sack and rushed throw stats…..would have been more except for the fumbles.

I never understood how Turner kept getting jobs. I think he was an OC as recently as 2019 or something like that. All because he had success with the best O Line in football protecting Hall of Famers at QB, RB, and WR for a couple years in the 90s.

JA doesn’t have the biggest arm. But he’s pretty consistent on hitting open guys. Can be a bit mobile, won’t bust any 20+ yarders most likely. He is a bit of a gun slinger, has to tone down the turnovers

He was running for his life last season. They lost their entire OL from the season before. He went 33/10 the season before for almost 3800 yards. So I don’t think he’s as much a gunslinger as people make him out to be. Plus I don’t think we put our QB’s into many places that they throw a ton of INT’s. I mean before coming here Hooker went 9/5, Milton in 2 years was 5/5 before here. If Milton can go 20/5 and has no idea where his throws are going, I think JA will be safe.

And yet Nico went from TN to UCLA who sucks at football and I’m pretty sure aren’t going to be good this season either. Appy State has prob been as good as UCLA has been if not better last few years. They are usually a pretty good program and Joey A led them to a 9-5 season in 2023. So not all SEC, Big 10 or Big 12 programs are created equal. Maybe not last year but lots of years Appy would have beaten Ms State or UCLA and some of those terrible ACC teams. Also by the way I think Diego Pavia did really well at Vandy and did he come from a P4 school? I just know he breathed new life into that program.
App State would have beaten us if not for a Josh Dobbs sneak for TD a few yrs back! I was there and held my breath the whole game.

This is the one knock against JA and thankfully this offense is extremely interception preventative so I think he will thrive in this offense. He has the physical tools and he has the Riz to lead.

'21 - Hooker - 3
'22 - Hooker - 2
'23 - Milton - 5
'24 - Leave-alama - 5

I get what you’re saying. If Joey does end up starting that will mean he beat out 2 guys those big schools did want so he will have to have developed some from his recruiting time. Either that, or all those Power 5 schools are wrong about the 2 other guys we have.

Edit:
@SayUWantAreVOLution

I thought I was replying to you but apparently not. This is what happens when you get old I suppose, at least that’s what I hear from my wife.

Was there as well ..One of great, really great, moments in Vol football history...One of greatest scenes was watching their fans filing out as the scoreboard kept lighting up. The announcers were obviously for Miami and that made it even more super.

Yeah, but we heavily outnumbered them from the get-go, didn't we? 🤷😁

I always take what any of these people connected to the program say with a grain of salt. I’ve never heard them say a quarterback wasn’t doing everything asked of them and more in the offseason. They’re always going to sugar coat it, which at times leaves us being blindsided when they don’t play well.

I hope he’s successful, I hope he exceeds all of our expectations. But, had we gotten this guy while Nico was still here, not a single person would be clamoring for him to start over Nico.
