Tori noel, Fred White, Jason Allen, Julian Battle, Deon Grant, Mark Jones, Gibril Wilson,& Rashard Baker. Im sure i left some above average to great safetys out since the mid 90s. My question is do you vol fans agree when i say EB is head & shoulders above all of them? Are any of these guys his equal or a just slight margin below?

There's some great players on that list but Berry is one of the best DB's college football has seen in a long time. When's the last time a safety was considered by most draft experts the best or 2nd best prospect in the draft?

Dale Carter was one of my faves. Carl Pickens could have been a standout DB too, IMO.

I think if Eric had played on more memorable teams there is no debate. There may not be any way.

Also remember EB picking off Tebow everytime he went up agaisnt the guy. Zero victories though. Wonder how good grant would have been if not for that volleyball accident.

Personally I am partial to Dale Carter, I thought he was the best not only on defense but special teams. Not to mention his Rookie of the Year honor with the Chiefs.

Dale Carter gets bonus points for the kickoff return against Florida that opened what might be the greatest half of football in Tennessee history.

He had ties to the university.

If he is half of Dale Carter I will be ok with that. DC was a stud. I just wished he didnt have such a gun fetish in Westport.

I think berry has had a better college career than carter. Obviously i thought he would be the closest to berry hence the start of my thread. If im not mistaken DC was a jc transfer. Might be different if he played 3 or 4 years. As far as pro careers will just have to see.

Dale Carter not only was outstanding at UT, he was among the elite DBs in the NFL for a few years.

Dale Carter was on a team with more talent than Berry...didn't get the pub that Berry has gotten. Tennessee is on national t.v. way more than at that time...so EB has had so much more exposure. DC played in the NFL from 1992-2005 earning 4 Pro-Bowls and was Defensive Rookie of the year in 1992. Had he not had some troubles along the way, he might have been one of the best. Was he better than EB? No. Was he just as talented? Yes.

Eric Turner, although 1991 was regarded going in as a pretty weak draft.

Highest drafted player at each position:
QB - Dan McGwire
RB - Leonard Russell
WR - Herman Moore
TE - Reggie Johnson
OT - Charles McRae
OG - Ed King
C - John Flannery
DE - Huey Richardson
DT - Russell Maryland
LB - Mike Croel
CB - Bruce Pickens
S - Eric Turner
