Daily Beacon article this morning...

False. Considering the market he gets paid very low for the amount of work, stress, and other factors involved in this job. Just because people think that it's a lot of money doesn't mean he's getting paid enough for the job. Everyone is saying he gets paid to win, but he doesn't. Saban and miles get paid to win. Right now CDD gets paid to fix the foundation of the program. If at the end of his contract he is winning then he will get paid to win in his new contract. If he isn't and stagnantly winning then he'll get paid the proper amount if retained. If he is losing bad still by the end of his contract then he won't be retained.

It's not that difficult.

whoa whoa whoa.

Do you honestly think that Dooley will/should make it to 6 years?

I'm not condoning him being berated in front of his family.

I think the conversation got steered into feeling sorry for him. I don't feel sorry for him at all. I'm not going to feel sorry for him because he's a "good man of integrity" that put himself in a situation where he will be well-compensated for being horrible at his job.

That's where this got off-topic.

Again, I absolutely do not condone yelling at him or his family. But I absolutely do not pity him or feel bad for him.

I guess where we differ, is that I separate the two. I don't feel sorry for him for being let go, in the proper way, for not getting the job done. I do feel sorry for him or anyone else who is berated in front of his family. I really don't even blame Dooley in a sense. He's in over his head and he shouldn't have been hired but he didn't hire himself. It was UT that made the mistake. If they offered the job to me, which vol nation can breath easy they won't, I'm taking it. The real person to blame, in my opinion, is Mike Hamilton.

No in regard to him losing (part you put in bold). But right now the only known factor of when it will end for him is when his contract is up. Before then it's just speculation until the official presser.

Exactly. He wasn't afraid to take the job when nobody wanted it. He stabilized a sinking ship. We are better off than we were when he took over 3 yrs ago. The next coach has something to build on. He deserves to be treated better.

I agree. I don't dislike Dooley as a person. He put in VFL and has done some decent recruiting. That being said, I don't want him as my coach. We need someone who can win in the SEC.

I guess I wasn't clear. We are 100% in agreement on all points.

I absolutely do not agree with nor think Dooley has earned public embarassment. Unless you're a convicted felon you don't deserve that.

He's not a bad guy. He's in over his head in a job he never should have gotten anyway. And I do hold Hamilton accountable above all.

Dooley/Chaney/Sunseri/etc will all get jobs after this. I highly doubt they will get lateral jobs but they'll get jobs as position coaches or in administration (I think Dooley would be a great AD employee... especially in a compliance role).

I harbor no ill will to any coaches on the staff. They're just in over their heads.

Why did this scene happen in the first place? This situation has been building for some time now why didn't DD take steps to protect his family from an embarassing situation? It's relative easy to proactively suggest to the wife that if the game doesn't go well, please go home without me and we'll talk later.

Human decency should prevent idiots from acting like this in public, but common sense should have told DD this was a likely situation.

I got you.

And you're correct. In absolute terms he has until his contract end.

However, I think everyone knows defined contract lengths are pretty much meaningless in College Football.

We had no business being in the game. It should have been a blowout.
A point totally missed by most. That we were in the games we lost this year shows this team is improving. The whole defense thing is being overblown when you take into consideration the teams we have played.

Cdd will be a great AD guy when he's older. If he's gone after this yr there is going to be a program out there that will want him to bring his knowledge to help build thier program as HC. With a patient fan base he'll do good. I'd actually even go as far as to say that KY would be stupid if they didn't talk to him and have him high on thier list. If they don't then they are proving they don't care about bldg up their football program. Just all IMHO that's all...

I agree with that. Just in my original post the way I said it finished the pt. I guess I could have put (if not fired prior) to be clear.

That's not anything that CDD said or did.

CDD simply went to spend a little time with his wife and son after a very close game and a heartbreaking loss, then the press beating on him after he had to try and find something to say to his team to try and get them to hold their heads up and not give up.

It's really sad and pathetic to try and spin everything towards hate on CDD and Tennessee fans should have lots more class than that.

VFL...GBO!!!

This x1000. And frankly it's not just Dooley, it's how we treat anybody in the public eye these days.

Rationization and reasoning skills are at a teenage level in areas of this thread.
Embarrassing any human in public is ridiculous. Doesn't matter they are or how much money they have.
It's a ****ing football game.

At least no one can question Dooley's ability to bathe himself during a press conference.

3.6 million a year isn't very low.

I have felt a lot of sympathy for the guy, but not everyone is cut out the this job. He just happens to be one of them. Hamilton had absolutely no reason to presume he could, and that's why we're in this mess.

Dooley should have stayed with Saban, instead of trying to jump the curve, and take the job at La Tech. He lucked out a 2nd time when Doofus Hamilton came calling. He got a shot, and he got several million dollars just to see whether or not he could handle it. He can't and it's time to move on...but with class. I don't know why anyone would heckle the guy. I wanted Fulmer gone too, but I think it's a low class move to heckle and jeer the guy from the stands, with his wife and kids in attendance.

This article is a crock of ****. Pardon me if I don't give a flying **** how one man is feeling about a few chants when he is about to have a 5 million dollar payout for being bad at his job. His children will never want for anything, he will still make money the rest of his life, his wife will still make money the rest of her life, and all the while real people are out there struggling. So, yeah, people can shove this sympathy ****, he knew what he was getting into.

I honestly don't think Dooley should be gone. Call me crazy . Yr 1 insignificant. Last year Bray and Hunter out. Lost to FL and AL at home (both been ranked #1 and #2). Lost to SC, GA, and MSSt away. Defense has been a mess. Look at this past week. He called out Bray and Hunter to step up. They did. 368 yds and 4 Tds for Bray against a good defense (hell JawJaw only scored 7 on them) Hard to be a clutch QB when the pocket collapses and not one picks up 2 defenders.

I know no one is happy and neither am I. I know a bunch of people are going to call me out on this post. But I like Dooley. Lots of character. I just don't think starting over will be the answer. If he wins out and wins a bowl game he should stay. Then make sure he takes charge of the ship and fixes the defense. Either we can get the players for the 3-4 or go back to a 4-3 like everyone else. We have been competitive in most games except FL and AL. Had a chance to win the other 3 in the 4th qtr. Team did not lay down and give up.

If he loses in the next 4 games then think Hart has no choice. But right now think it is 50/50. Save the $, hire some better assistants in the offseason. Bench Sal. Bray will be here next year and I believe Hunter will as well.

I'll hang up and listen, but for goodness sakes can we stop bashing fellow fans, coaches, and players on here and have some class? I think good fans can disagree on this. Someone making 10 times the average posters income on this board is going to make this decision. That's why they get paid the big bucks. Until then be classy, support the team, support Dooley.

GO VOLS...
Good thing would be seeing 4 more wins + bowl win. Dooley back. Bray back. Defense straightened out.

Thank you ^^^

And OP...you must be a cold hearted SOB to take umbrage with this article and present it as you have.

And for the podunks hung up on his $5m buy out...you obviously have no concept of business or dealings at such levels...many here do/have, I'm sure...but there's so much backwoods in here sometimes...I keep looking for the stills (or pot plants these days).

A $5m buyout is the province of veteran head coaches with championships and stretches of at least moderate success. CDD has neither.

Randy Shannon had years of 5-7, 7-6, 9-4, and 7-5 with Miami, and had a .500 ACC record and 3 bowls. He beat FL St twice and five other top twentyfive teams, and his 9-4 team ranked #19 in the AP. He was fired and his buyout was $1.5 million . A reasonable amount considering his modest success.

Come to think of it, I think Shannon's buyout was less than the one Mike Hamilton flinagled for.. Mike Hamilton!

Why the hell would Bray come back if Dooley is back? What does he possibly have to gain from that?

Further, what evidence do you have that the defense will be straightened out?

Hamilton is a pretty damn nice guy himself. i don't think you ought to call him a doofus neither.

There wouldn't be any big salaries or buyouts if there weren't people like you , who attach way too much importance to a stupid football game. Sounds like class envy on your part.

Agree Dooley is responsible. Just like Clawson switching to totally new scheme (Clawfence was inept as hell) going a different way is a risk. 3-4 a risk as well. Dooley is responsible for all of it... but when you invest in changing what do you expect him to do midseason for the defense??? Fire Sal? Just saying?

Like the offensive improvements this year. Just saying that we had we not went backwards on Defense... know it is frustrating.. Just had to do these stats to evaluate myself. Just like political polls, sometimes you got to look at the internals.

Ok... now go ahead and fire your 'only stat that matters is 3-5, 0-14 against ranked etc...'
