He lead them out to the crowd. That's on him. The fans (drunk I'm sure) were out of line. But a parent has to take responsibility for the choices they make. He knows how things are and yet he lead them out there. Very dumb move IMO

That's not the point at all. After the game he lead them to the crowd. Thats a bad choice. There were any # of ways he could have avoided this scenario.

Acting like a multimillionaire and his family will be put out on the street if he gets fired is not too far off from what some argue. I would have a lot more sympathy for a guy getting fired while making 30k with no gigantic buyout. Money does make a difference in this case. When you get paid as much as he does to lead a program with the stature of ours, results should be expected and failure should not be tolerated. Dooley is fine either way. I'm sorry if it hurts Barbara's baby's feelings if he gets let go. Feelings are all that will be hurt.

You do realize that with a $2,000,000/year salary comes enormous scrutiny, right?

That being a "good family man" doesn't make you above reproach?

While I'm not condoning some drunk idiot blasting Dooley but he had to have more sense than to invite problems. I don't deserve to get robbed but I don't go gallivanting through SE DC at 1am.

AMEN! No one likes losing--especially and foremost Tennessee Volunteer Fans! I will be a fan until the day I die...and I'm not saying that those wanting Dooley gone are not true fans....

BUT--this thing ain't gonna turn on a dime--there is no magic pill to take--and it's a process. CDD keeps saying these things because they ARE TRUE! Having to walk through a gauntlet of alleged UT fans shouting "Dooley, you're fired..." in the USCe stadium is an EMBARRASSMENT to EVERY VOLUNTEER fan--and there is no excuse for the fans to be that classless. Every one there who took part should be ashamed of themselves.

GO VOLS! :salute:

Amen! Dooley is the guy, and if the Volnation I remember would stand up and cheer for this team and coaches.........I don't think that kind of attitude exist anymore, I am more disappointed in the fan base than my team........I see kids working hard to please who? They say their playing for their team, did you hear that......why would a player say such a thing........because he does not see the support from the fans....that is heart breaking to a 19 year old who is sore, hurt, bleeding to hear fans booing, saying ugly things about their coaches and to make matters worse, they get on here and really get personal with Dooley. He is a man of integrity, he is trying to find that formula that makes UT a competitor and all some of these fans can do is make fun of him and the players.........I don't live in Tennessee anymore, my military career has moved me around a lot, I hang all my Orange and White in my office, car, home and yard.......not because my team is winning, because their my team........period. During Desert Storm I've seen young men holding their limbs and yelling out for the mom and dads, and I see people on here who probably never experienced war and agony, and they feel they are entitled to something from these players and coaches because they wear an orange hat or T-shirt. I've told my wife, if it wasn't for my 40+ years as a UT fan, I think I would walk away just because some of these fans have taken the sense of pride of rooting for a team and cheering for a win..........some are spoiled over history and have no reality of what College Football has turned into. We are southerners, we use to honor the flag, country, state and our State University, now all I see is a bunch of single minded "fans" that have no loyalty unless we win......wow, how great a world it would be if we always won and never lost. How about I introduce you to some moms and dads who lost their sons and daughters to protect what some of you take for granted.......yea, try to explain to them why UT winning is more important than their loss.......sorry, but I had to rant.......this crap is getting old........God Bless America and Go Vols!!

Rationization and reasoning skills are at a teenage level in areas of this thread.
Embarrassing any human in public is ridiculous. Doesn't matter they are or how much money they have.
It's a ****ing football game.

Ah yes, the time for the righteous card is now.

Dooley has earned a 4th year because he's a paragon of virtue and a man of integrity.

I'm actually surprised Dooley's attendance/membership at a local church hasn't been brought up.

No one is doubting Dooley's success as a father or as a husband. The fact is he has been paid very well to do a job that he is not capable of doing. We have all had failure and deal with it. So should he. The difference is that not only the kids that play for him are affected, but the whole institution, fan base included. So as far as I am concerned you can take your trash talk and your sympathy with him to the next job

Integrity does have a lot to do with how a man should be treated. Whether or not he is retained has nothing to do with treating a man with dignity. Personal attacks are unnecessary and show a lack of class when directed towards an honorable man. I hate the losing but I don't hate cdd. His performance as a coach will decide his future at UT, not how many insults drunk, classless fans hurl his way.

Over two years ago, I would have felt bad but not quite have understood. I now have a two year old son, and this scene does tug at me. I am not for keeping Derek Dooley, but none of us want to fail, especially for our family. I do feel for the man.

Exactly. He wasn't afraid to take the job when nobody wanted it. He stabilized a sinking ship. We are better off than we were when he took over 3 yrs ago. The next coach has something to build on. He deserves to be treated better.

I'm not condoning him being berated in front of his family.

I think the conversation got steered into feeling sorry for him. I don't feel sorry for him at all. I'm not going to feel sorry for him because he's a "good man of integrity" that put himself in a situation where he will be well-compensated for being horrible at his job.

That's where this got off-topic.

Again, I absolutely do not condone yelling at him or his family. But I absolutely do not pity him or feel bad for him.

False. Considering the market he gets paid very low for the amount of work, stress, and other factors involved in this job. Just because people think that it's a lot of money doesn't mean he's getting paid enough for the job. Everyone is saying he gets paid to win, but he doesn't. Saban and miles get paid to win. Right now CDD gets paid to fix the foundation of the program. If at the end of his contract he is winning then he will get paid to win in his new contract. If he isn't and stagnantly winning then he'll get paid the proper amount if retained. If he is losing bad still by the end of his contract then he won't be retained.

It's not that difficult.
