Dabo vs Butch

The original argument was that Tennessee would win 10 games in the ACC each year. Nothing indicates that to be true, but my arguments show that its probably not true. Doesn't matter how we consider bottom feeders or not. There are a lot of good teams in the ACC and at some point in a 13 game season Tennessee would have to play several of them. Being that Tennessee cant manage 10 wins in a comparable conference, its probably fair to believe they couldn't do it in any other power 5 conference.

It does when responding to that one post.

The "original" argument took a detour with the post you responded to. I don't think either of you had a good argument but really didn't care enough to respond, until Wylo made his comment about "facts". There were no facts that are "absolute " in favor of either one of you. Unless, you have a different opinion on who bottom dwellers are.

It ain't a big deal. I regret getting involved now.

Biggest difference between CBJ and CDS. CDS ran a play with 6 seconds and no timeouts left for the win in a national championship game. CBJ would have been content to get in field goal range and play for overtime.

Nail on the head! Dabo got some BALLS...

Are you saying VN would be in a meltdown if CBJ could manage a season that would result in an appearence in the national championship game and people would still question the decisions that got them there? Unfortunately, for us its not likely we will ever know the answer to that question. But i guess its fun to speculate. Id like to speculate on not being able to recruiter and develop enough quality depth to beat SEC bottom feeders.

I am saying that even if we got got to the championship game and lost, many would gripe and complain and blame the loss on Butch.

Lol. Reality? Butch's record IS reality. You're the ones living in rainbow land.

Reality. That's funny.

A fine point of distinction: The long view Vols fans don't live in rainbow land. They visit during the long wait between the last Vols game played and the start of the next season. It's sorta like Midwestern Yankees wintering in Florida...

Don't lump us in with the delusional just because we indulge in deluded hopes during the off-season. When we post, "15 & Oh, baby!" it is an acknowledgement that nothing is yet written and anything is possible (Don't confuse possibility with probability, you'll ruin the fun). Flights of fancy help to pass the time.

Now, I make no contention that JFreak is a long view Vols fan. For all I know, JFreak is a Schnuffel-loving sunshine pumper of the first order. I'm just appealing to your keener perceptions, Wylo. :hi:

no i wouldnt complain a bit, first because that means we beat Vandy and USC this year, losing only to Bama Twice and TAMU. Even getting beat by 50 by Bama i wouldnt complain, heck we almost did that once this year already and i didnt say a word to anyone, they are head and shoulders better than any team in the SEC, Sucks though that Vols fan have given up to that notion and dont care to fight it and just walk away with their tails tucked between their legs thinking second place is the best we can do, but at least if we had gotten to SEC championship game and lost we at least won a division title which is a good first step, instead we seem to be walking backwards on an escalator moving neither backwards or forwards, although i think this upcoming season we go at best 7-5 so a step back seems likely.

I respectfully disagree, sir....that's NOT what Dabo was doing last night at all...nor what his intent was in any honest evaluation of his words....

He was reflecting a genuine humility in refusing to rob the LORD God of the glory due to His name...and rightfully praising the LORD for taking a NOBODY from Pelham, Alabama and putting him on a stage before the entire sports world as a Championship coach....

Doesn't everyone love the David vs. Goliath story???

He never said that the LORD refused to help Alabama, nor anyone else or any other team...nor even remotely insinuated any such notion....:hi:

Well said Mike.

NC State didn't get your memo on SEC dominance.

They rolled the same Vandy team that the Vols couldn't beat for a Sugar Bowl.

I'd be embarrassed for not knowing that if I were you.
And we're literally a missed chip shot field goal from beating the eventual NC.

4 years of recruiting and not enough depth to beat a 5-7 Vandy team...yep future looks bright.

I'm not sure how you can argue recruiting when Butch's numbers thus far have been better.

I think the argument here is capability to coach them up. For someone that wanted to dive in (I might tomorrow) I would be interested in comparing their talent ranking to their performance and doing the same with ours and look at the rate of under/over achievement.

Butch hasn't done a great job of retaining his top talent

One is big time coach and proven winner.

The other is a gym coach, but a real solid guy.

We need to settle into our lane and enjoy 9 win seasons and cute bowl games.

Butch is in year 10, by the way. Not year 4.
You all are really stretching trying to compare situations and coaches for the fahr butch crowd. And Butch is in Year 4 to me considering he came in with one month to recruit his first year.

Dooley vs Butch?

Derek: 6-7 (2010) Music City Bowl loss, 5-7 (2011), 4-7 (2012) Fired after 11th game.
Lyle: 5-7 (2013), 7-6 (2014) Taxslayer Bowl win, 9-4 (2015) Outback Bowl win, 9-4 (2016) Music City Bowl win.

I'd say hiring Jones is a step in the right direction.

Note: Hart replaced Hamilton in 2011. When he hired Jones, men's athletics at Tennessee had yet to recover. To put it politely, it was financially thin. The football program was in disarray. Jones wanted the job. Other, higher profile coaches demurred.

Note: Tennessee has hired a new Chancellor who has yet to start the job. Tennessee is in the midst of a search for a new AD. One does not fire a coach under contract for the next 4 years in these circumstances. Like it or not, Jones is the HC for 2017 and very likely 2018.

It's the outset of the long wait for Tennessee football. Given the way it is, I choose to indulge in hopefulness, absurd flights of fancy, et al. Y'all are welcome to join me, or, you can continue curmudgeonly slamming CBJ and foretelling the Vols doom. Either way, it won't make one bit of difference in how Team 121 will play.

The timing is off to make a move with Butch he is here for 2017.

The debate goes on whether or not he can get us a NC given unlimited time.

These past 2 years we did some great things on the field but we also did some pretty bad things on the field.

The bad things we did set the stage for us to do those great things.

9-4 these past 2 years was a let down and hopefully it's not a trend but mearly bumps in the road.

Release the Beast!

2017 is off to a good start. It is time to finish the job and move on to bigger and better things for our Vol program.
